not only does it not work, but it does not work quite badly... As I did have

I have a usb
No I just use one that plugs into my already configured soundcard. Using USB
for audio just over complicates things and I have no idea why the idea has
taken on so much. We have audio in and out on the soundcards we use, even
ones back i the ealy 90s had them. Why can't we just use those. So much

There is a new kernel, 2.6.32-23 available in Lucid and as per Daniel
Hallett's post, there is no notification in Lubuntu about any upgrade.
Just a friendly reminder to upgrade to the new kernel. And don't forget
to reboot to effect the change (and there's also no warning in Lubuntu
to do that).
