I just installed LU Alpha 1 for further testing.
It works fine currently for an Alpha release.

thanks for your reminder. lubuntu applied for GSOC 2011, but did not
get in. Neither Ubuntu nor LXDE were GSOC projects 2011 by the way. I
guess you are referring to 2010.
We will try to get in 2012.
