Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Location of Window control buttons

2010-03-12 Thread PCMan
My personal opinion: No, and never!
This is the worst move of ubuntu.
Having ok/cancel buttons in opposite direction is bad enough already.
For whatever reason, deliberately being different from 95% of
worldwide computer users is quite unwise.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Location of Window control buttons

2010-03-12 Thread Phill Whiteside
For whatever reason, Ubuntu has moved the control buttons from the right
hand side, to the left hand side.

This has not pleased everyone -->
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1422422

Is Lubuntu going to follow the new methodology ?

Now I am confused !!!

So, do I just issue

sudo aptitude full-upgrade

sudo aptitude full-upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade do the same thing,
basically. The attempt to reslove dependency issues, removing files if
needed. They just do it slightly differently.

apt-get update and aptitude update are identical, they tell you what new
versions are available.

The safe-upgrade and upgrade options will never remove any packages at all.

and not bother with the sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
method ?

You have to do an update first to get the list of newer packages, either
with apt-get or aptitude.

sudo aptitude full-upgrade just happens to solve a problem that sudo
apt-get dist-upgrade doesn’t in this case.

Hey, it's only one command, I might even get to remember that one ;-)

Thanks,

Phill.

aptitude does not have dist-upgrade. It has full-upgrade and

which
are the dist-upgrade and upgrade counterparts from apt-get.

sudo aptitude dist-upgrade works on my machine, although I believe

full-upgrade is supposed to be used now.

Hi

puzzled @ phill

I use the commands that you gave me

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and they were still held back.

Odd that it worked for you, and didn't for me. Unless it is one of the
subtle differences between apt-get and aptitude. Should I be using
aptitude

?

Aptitude has a different algorithm for for solving dependencies.
