[Lubuntu-desktop] New idea list for LXDE Google Summer of code 2010

2010-03-30 Thread PCMan
Hi all,
Since most of the previously proposed items are not suitable for
Google SoC because they are not challenging enough, I rewrite the
whole page and to list some real projects which can be done for the
whole summer. Some of previously proposed items are too easy and some
can even be done within one week. Then students will get nothing to do
later. Google summer of code need something of larger scale and they
should be projects which spend your whole summer. So here is the new
idea list. For students who want to join LXDE GSoC, please read the
page and send your application now. If what you want to do is not on
the page, mail your idea to our mailing list and we'll review your
idea immediately.

This is the new list: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Google_Summer_of_Code_2010

Happy coding!

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Screencasts

A link on the desktop should be enough. Please don't include this in
the distro. The space should be left for language supports IMO. So
people can get a fully translated desktop after installation. This is
very important. If some language supports are not installed, the user
will get English user interface after installation. However, those who
need the language support most are the one who don't understand
English. If they don't understand English, how can they know how to
get network configured, get online, and install the remaining language
support via the tools with English UI? Since we have much space, I'd
suggest include all language support given they are not too big. Of
course, we don't need language files of gnome. So some dependencies
might need to be changed.

Hi,

very nice videos. I was thinking about the inclusion of videos in the
distro. However, this contradicts with the goal of keeping the distro
small. Would it be an alternative to offer a separate (optional)
package with support videos for download through the repository as
well as via the site?

What do you think?

Really nice :) Especially, I like the aqualung and the chromium ones :)
Just a note for futur screencast, it could be nice to have the locale
set to english :)

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] ubiquity

2010-03-30 Thread Julien Lavergne
Alternate and standard version are build differently. Alternate
use .deb, standard use squash.
The better option seems to add the mini.iso functionalities into the
normal .iso. But I have currently not the time to do it.

Here a few new screencasts of Lubuntu showing some of the default apps in
Lubuntu.
I intended to keep this screencasts short for the sake of beginners and
switchers.
All the screencasts were created with free software and edited with OpenShot
video editor.

http://blip.tv/rss/bookmarks/206798 (RSS Feed, needs a feedreader)
The Videos in the RSS Feed should also be downloadable with Aqualung. But it
will download all of them :)

Have fun ;)
