 to it via smb:// URI.

however, i really wanted to browse in lxterminal, so i proceeded to:
 sudo mount -t cifs //server/share /mnt
and it failed. upon installing smbfs, no problems.

i guess the real question is whether or not this is a bug. if we intend CLI
to support Samba natively, then this should be a part of lubuntu-core, else
we should at least add it to the wiki and/or FAQ.

See previous email of PCMan about it :

No, it's not a bug and smbfs is not needed, either.
GVFS, if properly installed with proper backends, should support smb.
If you can use gvfs-ls or gvfs-* commands to handle smb:// paths, then it's a
bug of pcmanfm.
Otherwise, gvfs or other stuff is not correctly configured under lubuntu.

Could you please do the tests with gvfs and report back ?

Thank you so much for your nice words, I appreciate that :)

@Tim

This should be very useful as long as you take ownership and keep it up to
date and until it gets so big it's impossible to navigate. It should prove
useful for this release and a new one could be started for subsequent
 releases.

I'll update it on daily basis whether on this release or the coming ones :)
With the index page on the first post, it's impossible that it will be hard
to navigate ;) By time, you'll understand what I mean.
I've seen some threads like GRUB2 Threads but drs305 which are great threads
but hard to navigate because there is NO index page/post that will point you
to exactly where you want.

Thank you again :)

Looks great, I like it :^)

I've had very little desk time lately but I think that's a great idea.
Possibly around December or January I can help contribute to that.

 Thanks for your dedication,

[Lubuntu-desktop] [ PCManFM ] Trash - Adding Trash to Desktop

2011-10-22 Thread Ali Linx
Hi PCMan and everyone,

As you may know, many users including myself are wondering when it's
possible to add Trash to desktop and have Right Click Empty Trash just
like the other Desktop Environment?

http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=8t=2018

I followed the above steps and I have now two icons on my Desktop but there
is NO Empty Trash Option from that icon, I still have to do it the old way.

Beside, is there any news regarding Drag and Drop feature for PCManFM?

Thank you!

[Lubuntu-desktop] [Bug 664206] Re: SSH_AUTH_SOCK not being properly set: user has to type password even if saved in the password manager

2011-10-22 Thread urusha
Default lubuntu oneiric installation contains this package and there is
pam_gnome_keyring in /etc/pam.d/lxdm, so, that's not the case. But your
words remind me to look into /var/log/auth.log, and that's what I see
there:

gnome-keyring-daemon[1498]: couldn't set environment variable in
session: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any
.service files

After quick googling I found theese bugs related to this issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/344014
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/34
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-session/+bug/357346
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-session/+bug/564831

They are mostly about xfce-session. So, it seems lxsession has exactly
the same problems.

Here is the patch to startlubuntu script that solves the problem. If it's
considered that lubuntu contains gnome-keyring by default, this patch seems to
be sufficient.

** Patch added: export gk SSH_AUTH_SOCK via startlubuntu

  Expected behavior:
You run ssh myn...@mydomain.net and the password manager opens a GUI to ask
for the passphrase. Once unlocked, it remains unlocked until you log off.
Moreover, at that moment of unlocking you can tell it to remember the
passphrase forever so it gets automatically unlocked next time you login. Any
other application that uses ssh-like connections will find this key unlocked as
well.

  Observed behavior:
You run ssh myn...@mydomain.net and it prompts you for the key passphrase
in the terminal. You run it again, you are prompted again. Any other
application that uses ssh-like connections will result in a passphrase prompt

  How to reproduce:
  Enter Lubuntu session
  Open Passwords and Encryption Keys
  Create a Secure Shell key
Configure this key to some domain you can ssh to
Open a terminal and run ssh myn...@mydomain.net
You are promted for a password in the terminal interface.

  Partial workaround:
Here is a partial workaround for a terminal session: export
SSH_AUTH_SOCK=`echo /tmp/keyring*/ssh` after the keyring-daemon has been loaded.
But it only works within the same terminal session, not for other
applications that launch ssh-like processes.
Disclaim: it works for Lubuntu session inside a Ubuntu 10.04 install, with
GDM as session manager.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] [ PCManFM ] Trash - Adding Trash to Desktop

2011-10-22 Thread Ali Linx
Another question:
In Nautilus, there is a great package: nautilus-image-converter. With one
click, you can re-size multiple images.
I have no idea how to do that on LXDE/Lubuntu.

Any idea?
Any future plans to add that to PCManFM?

I know there are other applications/approaches to resize but I'm looking for
the fastest one.

Thanks!

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Future - Target Market

2011-10-22 Thread Ali Linx

The priorities are optimizations and stabilizations, and adding most needed
and wanted features. I personally don't think we should compare us with
other distros (even Xubuntu). We have a goal, Xubuntu has another, let's
just trying to do our best to improve ourselft for our users :)

+1
Couldn't agree more.
We need to stop comparing ourselves to other distribution BUT in the same
time, we must keep ourselves up to date and keep looking for better features
to add. Checking on other projects IS helpful but comparing and trying to
adopt exactly or similar approaches might NOT be good idea all the time.

For example, if one feature in XFCE will slow down LXDE, I personally will
vote against it no matter what.

LXDE is super fast and it should be like that as always. This is my personal
opinion :)

Being around on Ubuntu Forum, I see MANY are converting to LXDE/Lubuntu.
However, I see one major issue and I'm trying to find a way to solve it but
not sure how long I need for that. The problem is: People don't know much
about LXDE and Lubuntu. They think it's totally different world that VLC on
their Unity or XFCE won't work on LXDE so they keep asking such questions.
I've seen many questions like that.

I think we must promote for LXDE more. Lots of work must be done here if you
ask me.
One step ahead IMHO is to improve our Wiki and Documentation system. I'm
trying to develop an approach I already have started with some months ago
but I need some time for that. I have my own vision of how to promote for
LXDE and Lubutnu.

Another step ahead is having more members with groups, each group is in
charge of ONE TASK. Having that said, members will stay focus and their
productivity will be higher.

Just some thoughts to share with you, as always :)

Thanks!

for the passphrase.

Any other
application that uses ssh-like connections will result in a passphrase prompt
as well.

  $ printenv SSH_AUTH_SOCK
  /tmp/ssh-PZgdl10603/agent.10603
  $ ssh mydomain
Enter passphrase for key '/home/leorolla/.ssh/id_rsa': [pressed ^C]
  $ export SSH_AUTH_SOCK=`echo /tmp/keyring*/ssh`
  $ printenv SSH_AUTH_SOCK
  /tmp/keyring-k3BQQd/ssh
  $ ssh mydomain
