I did notice that x-chat is there as an IRC agent. When I was running

seconds / 10 seconds) - My laptop fan was running quite a lot.

Since changing to pidgin for IRC, I have a much quieter computer (and
an un-burned lap)

As pidgin is going to be shipped, is x-chat required ? I'm just
wondering what affect it was Vs pidgin on lower spec processors.
Pidgin is IMHO no real IRC client and misses a lot of features and
behaviors in this regard.

I know that disk mounting was mentioned, but does / is lubuntu going
to have the equivalent of Places to provide a GUI for mounting
partitions, it is quite conceivable for a low specification computer
to be dual booting.
As I saw it in the pcmanfm2 code it is planned to have a desktop icon
for each mounted devices (perhaps even unmounted devices, if you want to
mount them) + Drives and partitions will appear in the bookmarkspanel on
the left.

Apart from that, absolutely fantastic !!!

Regards,

Phill.

Any one tried Ubuntu One with Lubuntu?

I have had it working but it’s behaviour is a bit erratic. I’m sure it

Music Store should be no problem as it will be integrated in rhythmbox and
banshee (so installing one of them would grant you access to the music store)

The artwork of alpha 3 rocks! Thank you all!

As reported in this mailing list by some users, pcmanfm2 doesn't seem
to work well with trash:// or others.
It might be caused by failure of dbus launch. When gdm is used, this
doesn't seem to be the problem since gnome seems to do something under
the hood. However, with lxde, this is not automatic.
The latest lxsession in git repo contains code to automatically launch
dbus when needed. This must be used instead of the currently released
tarball 0.4.1. Otherwise things might not work if you're not using
 gdm.
Thanks for tacking this, I'll made the necessary modifications.

I know that now we're feature freeze. However, there are plans to
update most of the LXDE components recently.
If this could be limited to pcmanfm/libfm, that will be nice :) Handle
new features after Feature Freeze is difficult and a long process, and
we can't spend this time to fix bugs.

 Targets:

 1. Finish PCManFM2. (planned release date: before 3/20, deadline: end of
 March)
 2. Add basic theming support to LXLauncher and fix its bugs -- this
is required for netbook mode of lubuntu
I don't think the theming is really needed for this realease.

 3. Make a new release for LXSession including new logout mechanism
 added by Marty Jack.
For now, logout working good. Introducing a new mechanism now will need
testing/bug fixes. It's a good think, but not sure it's necessary for
this release.

 4. New components now requires menu-cache 0.3.2, which is not yet in
 alpha3. (soname is changed)
I'm working on it.

 5. LXMusic might work now in Lubuntu since xmms2 is updated in ubuntu.
Test is needed to make sure.
It's working since some times.

 6. LXDM: this is one of the most problematic part, too. Need some help.
Yes, and unfortunately, boot process on Lucid have many changes since
Karmic :(

The most important part is pcmanfm2 as this is the core of LXDE. If it
fails to be stable enough before 10.4 release, Lubuntu will have many
problems. So I'll do my best to ensure its quality. Soon there will be
 0.9.1 release.

The parts that requires most testing in pcmanfm2 are:
 1. File operations: copying, moving, deleting, and trashing. (The most
 important)
 2. Remote file system support
 3. Thumbnails
 4. Volume management
Thnaks, I'll keep update the wiki page

test box and click Next without changing anything else. After I
click through to screen #6 (user information), I cannot proceed since
the keyboard is somehow blocked: no alphanumeric keys work at all.
However, something else works: space, enter, arrows, ins, home, end,
del, pageup, pagedown, | and \ (same key with and without Shift),
maybe something else (don't know how to test Ctrl, Alt, Esc,
 functionals, etc.)

Installing a Russian version from a Russian LiveCD session works fine.
Selecting German or some Indian layout (line #8 from the bottom of the

lock the keyboard, I didn't run any installation to the end so far.)

Selecting Greek l11n from an English LiveCD session yields those

I understand this can be the base Ubuntu issue, but currently I have
no time to download the daily iso and play with it, sorry. Hopefully
 someone else can do it...
Yes probably, or maybe it's the lack of language support on the Live-CD.
It's something to test when the installer will be more stable.

 Sincerely,
 Mikhail Maksimov

PS There're also some annoying ureadahead error messages during the
boot, but those don't seem to be harmful. I have also seen such
messages when I tested 20100215 iso on a physical machine. I think
someone else mentioned those here on the list, too.
Yes, but the standard version of Ubuntu have also this messages. So I

When lxdm is used along with lxsession, sometimes this happens.
If the bug cannot be fixed in time, I'd suggest use gdm this time.

Apparantly this is yet another dbus-related problem.
Using this feature requires both of dbus and policy-kit working.
You even need a policykit agent. Currently the only choice is polkit-gnome.
By default polkit-gnome's authentication agent is turned off outside Gnome.
This needs to be turned on in its desktop file installed ot /etc/xdg/autostart.
TODO:
1. make sure dbus is correctly launched.
2. make sure policykit agent is running.

One more think I forgot earlier. LXTerminal doesn't save history (as far as

  apt-get install flashplugin-installer solved it.
Yes, we definitely need a plugin to install a flash provider (reported
 on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/SubTeams/TestingSubTeam)

  2. no applets with chrome(ium) and icedtea. I use online banking and
this is a MAJOR issue for me. Solution is to either download install
sun's java or install Firefox to be able to run applets.
What do you mean by applets ?

Java applets (used by some banks for online banking)

  3. In networkmanager VPN is inactive, can not Add. I installed
apt-get install network-manager-vpnc vpnc resolvconf rdesktop. After
this, I was able to use VPN from command line, but in networkmanager
it remained disabled. Do I need to install any other package?
Do you have something in /etc/network/interface which manage VPN ? If
it's the case, network-manager disable the management of the VPN, and
 it's handle directly by /etc/network/interface

  4. pcmanfm2 now seem less complete than in pre-alpha3 (the test image
from a week ago). Earlier in pcmanfm2 I was able to use
applications:/// and trash:///. What happened, is this an older build?
  Just curious.
Problem with dbus, a fix it's in progress.

  5. printing does not work for me (it worked before alpha3). Installed
my printer, it was recognized, added it, but nothing comes out (not
even the test page). Weird. In manage print jobs document print
status shows Completed. Any idea? Thanks
No idea. Is someone else have this problem ?

 Julien Lavergne

I know the default editor in Lubuntu is not user-friendly, and its

I think):

I must admit I’m at a complete loss understanding how mtpaint looks dated
or ugly, especially when compared to gpaint.

Wouldn't it be better to use brasero?
 Even xubuntu ships brasero.
I prefer that Lubuntu depends on hal instead of half of the GNOME

Java applets (used by some banks for online banking or used by some
online games). The only combination it doesn't work is chromeicedtea.
Applets work with icedteaff and also works with sunjavachrome.
Reported :

One more think I forgot earlier. LXTerminal doesn't save history (as
far as I remember it never did). Closing and opening a new terminal
clears history. Is there a way to enable history saving between
 sessions?
I can't reproduce it.

Sorry for assumeing that it's a principle for the whole ubuntu-family. It
seems that all big distros thinking about replaceing hal:

Trying to install brasero aptitude just wants to download:
- brasero
- brasero-common
- dvd+rw-tools
- genisoimage
- libbeagle1
- libbrasero-media0
- libgmime-2.4-2
- libnautilus-extension1
- libtotem-plparser17
- wodim

That's just 2.7 MB to download (and not the half gnome-desktop ;-) )

It's jm2c to mention, that it could be dangerous to depend on something that
is deprecated by big influential groups.

Ok, it's after feature-freeze, so maybe next time...

[Lubuntu-desktop] RTL issue

2010-02-27 Thread PCMan
From some screenshot googled from internet, I noticed that pcmanfm2
desktop manager + lxpanel have RTL issues.
I really did some RTL handling in pcmanfm2, but it doesn't seem to
work correctly?

The screenshot:
http://arabicfoss.blogspot.com/2010/02/lubuntu-1004.html

Can anybody confirm this? Or it's a locale issue?

Its a paint.net http://paint.net clone, unfortunately its written in
mono, but its still pretty damn good for its size..

 http://code.google.com/p/paint-mono/

Mono is a runtime/interpreter for CLI bytecode, not a language. You really mean
C#, but there's really nothing wrong with it being written in C#. The real
problem is that we are past FeatureFreeze and nobody has packaged it for
Debian/Ubuntu just yet, so it is not in the archives and will not be entering
Lucid.
