[Lubuntu-desktop] sound

2010-05-28 Thread Phillip Whiteside
Hi,

dead quick one, are we using pulse-audio or alsa (or something else) as I
cannot get the Microphone on my headset for skype to be recoginsed.

Install Skype:

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-skype-in-ubuntu-from-skype-repository.html#more-5699

(10.04 version)

I've also done

sudo apt-get install pulseaudio pavucontrol padevchooser

which has put them on, but still no sign of my microphone (It all works fine
with 10.04 ubuntu)

Any ideas?

Regards,

Phill.

Peppermintos is really nice indeed (it's lubuntu+mint+prism). It's
worth trying. Nice concept.

But, I'm not throwing in the towel on lubuntu :)

Thanks

I think that is good idea to subscribe to ubuntu geek. Here are 2 articles
about problems with nvidia cards on ubuntu 10.04. Check them:

 and

They were very useful for me cause I had GT 240 card and this helped me.
Hope, it will help you too.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] 'Ask me' option in power management preferences doesn't not open the logout dialog

2010-05-28 Thread Jaeic Lee
You are right, The reason that I had to include all those parameters were
that without those parameters you get a simple logout dialog without the
lubuntu logo inside it.
Maybe we could bug the LXDE developers about having a config file support
for lxsession-logout.

Also, at least a simple program that can edit the ACPI event scripts that is
just as easy as gnome-power-manager should help us solve this problem
without getting ugly with g-p-m.

Of course, just as you said, having an lxde specialized power manager would
be the best solution...

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] great lubuntu with problem

2010-05-28 Thread Jaeic Lee
I'm using Nvidia 9500GT, and what I did was that I installed
'nvidia-current', and 'linux-headers-generic' package that corresponds to
the kernel that is being used.

Apparently, when I installed only nvidia-current, its
'linux-headers-generic' dependency was satisfied by header files that
belonged to a kernel version that was no longer being used, so although the
package went through, the actual installation has failed because it couldn't
find the proper header files.

Check if your header files are up-to-date, and you also need to run 'sudo
nvidia-xconfig' to actually enable the 3D support.

PS. Why did you include an advertisement for some 'medications' along with
your message?

Hi,

I don't have a nvidia card, so you may want someone to verify this, but
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1467074 has a solution that *should
*work with lubuntu, please note that there is an update to the notes - most
people seem to have gotten good results from it and you do get the latest
drivers from nvidia (they comment that the ones on the repository can be a
little dated).

Phill.

Yeah it is a quick and dirty patch only. It would be nice to have an
global lxde logout command, which greps its wallpapers and settings from
a config file instead of a command line parameter.

For the powerbutton to do anything, capture the keycode with xev (run it
in terminal and press the button, it will give you a keycode).
With the keycode you can then link the appropiate key to the lxde-logout
executable from within openbox configuration file.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] 'Ask me' option in power management preferences doesn't not open the logout dialog

2010-05-28 Thread Zeraxeal
I tried to make a patch for it...and it works, but it's REALLY ugly.

http://paste.pocoo.org/show/219219/

The link leads to the diff file that
I've created, and it's basically a copy-and-paste from lxsession-logout's
method to check for lxsession, and if there is a session running, it will
call for a system() function to "lxsession-logout -b
/usr/share/lubuntu/images/logout-banner.png -s top"

Not pretty, and possibly crazy (as I'm not a coder at all so I don't know
how 'conventional' coding is like), but it worked for me :-/
