Only one window manager may run per X display, yes. Compiz++ 0.9 is no
exception. And yes, you can run Compiz in Lubuntu by replacing Openbox
with it, using something like "compiz --replace", or even "compiz"
alone, since compiz defaults to --replace behaviour in Ubuntu.

To revert back, you can probably run "openbox --replace", or otherwise
killall compiz, then run "openbox".

I heard someone do this but seriously, I do not think its possible.
LXDE uses Openbox. That is a window manager. Compiz is also a window
manager, so the two replaces each other.

One shot you can try is the 0.9 Compiz++ branch. (Or wait until it
comes out). That'll support stand-alone window managing, so it'll work
I guess with lxde.

Is there a way to 'turn on' Compiz within Lubuntu?

I think it's important to release often. Even if it's not complete,
release something will bring users, feedbacks, and maybe
developers/patches. Waiting for pcmanfm to be complete may be long. No
software is perfect, and I think for a rewrite, pcmanfm is quite in a
good state.

Also, you could branch actual git trunk to 1.0 and commit only bug
fixes, and share patches with trunk, where development continue.

Julien Lavergne

Not sure what’s happening with your system, as mine has a white outline on
the pointer when it moves into the terminal, or anywhere that has a dark
background.
One solution would be to have a white background in the terminal, as I
normally do.

This appears to be the best option to me. This would give a stable and
functional version and one to 'mess about' with, as 'tree view' and
search are just nice extras that most people can function with out.
