Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Backup Software

2010-10-24 Thread Julien Lavergne
A quick view on pybackpack:
- The GUI seems good and simple
- there is a depends on brasero, which is problematic :)

Flyback seems also interesting.

But there is so much choice in this area, we really need feedback from users of
those solutions.

Julien Lavergne

[Lubuntu-desktop] Backup Software

2010-10-24 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hiyas Steve,

I started with this list a while back
http://www.junauza.com/2009/01/7-best-freeopen-source-backup-software.html

I use clonezilla, but I was involved in discussions with pybackpack as the
dev was looking to make it GNOME independant.
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/pybackpack-a-user-friendly-file-backup-tool-for-ubuntu-linux-desktop.html

So, there you go. Discussion re-started :)

Julien, no worries. I'll keep it on my server area (I have 1TB). I'll get
the 10.04 notes re-done in next couple of days. Once the new server area is
set up, Derrick has agreed to allow it to be a seeder for all the lubuntu
releases. But like yourself, he's a bit busy atm.

I'd be interested to hear your solutions. What I’m after is a solution
(simple) for a single machine and another for networked machines. I’m
currently using a rather messy scripted thing based on rsync and really need
some thing better. The solution for single machines must be easy to use for
naive users. I’d like to keep the discussion on-line so others may benefit, or
chip in, unless you’ve reasons not to.
Best start a new thread I think.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] LXDE + OOo Impress + Ubuntu / Lubuntu--> squeezed subscripts

2010-10-24 Thread Mårten Behm
Yes, it works and it's a good idea. But it's still a problem when the
document is opened on another computer, like my Gnome-Ubuntu machine.
Then it will most likely look expanded. My live Lubuntu session just
crashed before I had saved the file to an external drive. So I give up
producing any hard evidence for today. Have to go to work now.

I think it is definitely something buggy in the border regions between
