Windows
XP/Vista Control center with all its category hell. Where you don't

anything so easily. It also requires Webkit as a dependency.

Yes, for advanced users, the categories are annoying :) I always switch

think it's easier to categorize and to describe more the options

Also, we already have webkit in Lubuntu (osmo bring it on 10.10).

Know problem.
Install os-prober 'apt-get install os-prober' then run 'sudo update-grub'.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu removes windows from Grub

2010-11-22 Thread Lee Gold
Hi,

Whenever I install Lubuntu 10.10 w/a windows partition side by side, after the
1st update the windows is gone from the grub menu.

Only happens with Lubuntu and happens consistently.
Will this ever be fixed?

Thanks

It's probably because the actual theme is too aggressive. It should be
possible to make a simpler theme (an html page) with less fancy stuff.

For curious, the code is here :

Forgot to add my benchmarks.
Both take around 12-14 MiB but, Xarchiver is a slow CPU hog taking 4½ mins. to
extract an 84 MiB ISO from a BZ2 file using 70% CPU while file-roller took 40
secs. and used 45% CPU. This was teh worst of 3 tests but Xarchiver was quite a
bit slower throughout. Lets hope file-roller gets sorted.

That’s not so bad, as you wouldn’t/shouldn’t really be running it with anything
else running. As for CPU usage, it uses between 10 and 20% plus the
application it calls. It’s one major concern to me is the pregnant pause
between clicking some thing and anything happening, this can be anything from
3-5 secs. on my machine. I think it is something worth keeping an eye on to
see how it develops.
For now though I think we should stick with LCC. I would, however, suggest a
couple of things to make it better. This is based on comments by a new user.
Could the tool tips have a bit of an explanation as to what each thing does and
if an application isn’t installed could it say so when clicked.

Yes, it's not perfect yet. I already have some tests to do, and bugs to

LightDM more or less works, but it has some glitches and it's hard to set up.
First, its upstart config file is not complete and needs some fix.
Please if someone know how to do this, help the author.
Second, I never got it work correctly with console Kit and some
authentication thing.
Again, if anyone know how to get it work, please help.
Otherwise, it should be a good replacement for gdm.

Not perfect, there is a bug. Try to open muti-part archive (like rar) from

I would like to know if people tested it on a small configuration, to
see if the behavior is also good enough.

Running Lubuntu 10.04 at 760mhz & 256Ram File-Roller runs perfect.
