Heh.  That will teach me to ask questions before introducing myself :)

( BTW, just to be pedantic, I'm Jonathan -- one o and two as)

I'm a very long time Linux user (since late 1992), very comfortable with
system and network administration.  I've done some Debian/Ubuntu bug
fixing and packaging, and have a few packages officially in both
distributions with my name in the debian/changelog file.  I'm probably
technically proficient enough to become a MOTU (so others have told me!)
but consistently putting time into MOTU work and being familiar with all
the surrounding procedural stuff may be more than I want to commit to at
the moment.  I'm happy scripting in shell, Perl, Python, etc. and I can
code in lower level languages when the need arises :)

I'm prone to giving talks at my local Linux User Group, and occasionally
known to create or edit or proof read documentation (I added some items
to the wiki page for the recent Lubuntu documentation day, although I
wasn't free to actually do any work on the day itself!).

My primary personal interest in Lubuntu is for lower-spec older PCs,
which have been rescued and set up ready to give away to folks who
wouldn't otherwise have a PC at home at all.  On modern high end desktop
hardware, GNOME or KDE don't seem to slow things down much any more :)

I'd really like to see Lubuntu seen and treated as equal to Ubuntu and
Kubuntu and Edubuntu, on Canonical web sites and on forums etc., partly
so I don't have to explain it to people so often :)

This kind of testing of proposed packages seems pretty straightforward,
so I'll hope to get at least a couple of Julien's proposed fixes tested
this weekend so we can move things along.

On IRC I tend to hang out in #ubuntu-server, #ubuntu-motu and #debian
... and I will try to pop up in #lubuntu from time to time :)

 Jonathan

I'm glad to see another packager here :) If you need to understand
Ubuntu workflow (not easy sometimes :)), or if you need sponsorship
for upload, you should drop to #lubuntu chan, there are 2 MOTU
(hyperair and me) who can help you :)

And thank you for your tests on the fixes :)

Regards,
Julien Lavergne

 Theme related

With the indications from Simon Steinbeiß, Ozone is now Equinox free and
incredibly fast. I've reduced even more the file structure and its
dependencies on other files, so it's easily installable. Please, check it
out and comment. I appreciate it, and final users too [image: :)]

 Thanks :)

I tested it on a natty virtual box, and the result of the panel theme is
just beautiful :)
For the gtk theme, there is still a depends on murrine engine. If you remove
the murine engine, many applications lost their theme. I must admit that the
result with murrine installed is very nice, but I would like to avoid the
installation of another gtk engine.

Is it possible to keep the murrine settings, and to fallback to another
settings using another engine if murrine is not installed ? I'm not a gtk
theme expert, so what is possible to do :)

Julien Lavergne

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] wiki artwork reordered

2011-01-30 Thread (Rafael Laguna)
I'm afraid not. When you define a widget you are telling first which
engine will draw it, and then specify its design. So, putting two
definitions of one widget will cause that GTK will use the last one in
the gtkrc file.

Do you think that include Murrine in the distro is a problem? Look at
Elementary or Ambiance / Radiance. They are heavily based on Murrine and
they're fast, because using the Cairo lib (everything is vectorial). I
think the Murrine package is small (90 kb, Clearlooks is about 45 kb,
both compressed, after decompression they will grow up to 300 kb).

So, I can't imitate the widget style from Murrine using Clearlooks. In
fact is impossible, because Andrea Cimitan designed it looking for a
full set of eyecandy on the widgets (while keeping the speed, of
course).

If you think that's impossible to apply Ozone to Lubuntu, please, tell
me before spending several days :) and we'll look for another solution.

Sorry for this inconvenience.

I'm more afraid about the runtime need of this engine. I'll try to make a
package so people will be able to test it in real. There is also the
possibility to ship it as an alternative, or to ship it by default with the
old theme if people want to keep the old one. Don't worry, it's not a waste
of time :)

[Lubuntu-desktop] [Bug 660003] Re: Did not proper start gnome keyring

2011-01-30 Thread EricDHH
The problem is the missing interaction between 3 parts, so you have to
do a logon triathlon.

1. you have to logon at lxdm
2. you have to logon at modemmanager
3. you have to logon at gnome keyring with same password as 1

Should be

1. logon at lxdm, this opens gnome keyring and this opens modemmanager

I installed pam keyring libs after that, but something is missing in the
base config after all.
