It's not technically a LTS (only Ubuntu and Kubuntu are). It could make confusion for users, we don't do all the security support that LTS have. But, we try to support it as much as possible, mostly by providing a backport PPA (LXDE PPA) and some updates to the Lubuntu PPA. I can do the text for this if you want. This isn't true. As support for i586 chip sets has been dropped from the kernel by the kernel developers for Linux from the 10.10 series onwards, 10.04 Has all the details. [Lubuntu-desktop] Summarize of UDS regarding Lubuntu
Hi, This is a quick summarize of the UDS, and some impacts on Lubuntu development : == Lubuntu and official status == Like said during the session, we are on track for official status. Infrastructure problems are going to be solved and Lubuntu adding to the list of flavors. We have all the authorizations for it, so I'm pretty sure it will happen this cycle. Once we have a build to test, I can announce the birth of Lubuntu :) We will have to work on stabilize the new ISOs, but I'll write again when it will be available. == Work during this cycle == Like said during the session, a lot of work will be necessary to be ready for gtk3 migration. I don't expect many new exciting features, unless others people come and help and various projects. == Rewrite of the TODO page == To help to know where there is work to do, I re-used my TODO page for Lubuntu to be used by others. You can find it on : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Developers/TODO Let me explain the different sections : * Bitesize : It's little bugs that should be easy to fix, and are suitable for new comers. * Projects : It's more than bitesize :) It's more difficult / long to implement, suitable for people who want to work on a more long-term project. * Discussed projects : items that are discussed, but we are not sure if it's useful, suitable, or possible for Lubuntu. * Packaging : items relative to packaging, for Debian or Ubuntu. * Upstreaming : it's tasks to be done directly on upstream side. * Project Organization : task for the general organisation of the project. * Documentation : Various items for documentation. * Later / To triage : not up to date, don't look at it :) When you want to work on an item, you should put your name at the beginning of the line, or put your name in the table. It should avoid duplicate work. == Other == All should be summarize in the TODO page. If I missed something, let me know. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] system requirements (workaround created!)
Hiyas Julien and Kiempe, There are several links on the community section of pages that still link back to the 'old' wiki. Once the GetLubuntu page and it's associated pages are finished, I'll make a start. But if the kind people from SoD want to dive in and check that I've not missed any links, it would be appreciated. It's not the most exciting work in the world, copying and pasting pages but is pretty essential for when we depreciate the 'old' Documents and Help area. As we get them checked, diverts can be put on the 'old' pages for those who have the 'old' pages bookmarked as per Julien's request. Regards, Phill. I selected more and it showed a second menu containing just a fewselections just italina english in many flavours and a few ones I cannot remember and chinese (zh_cn)first I choosed en_gb, then get back in it_it and then I choosed zh_cn .. after that the second menuis only showing the chooses I made en_gb, it_it and zh_cn .. no way to get more languages Cheers Le Friday 13 May 2011 à 18:32 +0200, write@xx a écrit : I would like to advice the community of a little problem of translation. It should be fixed in the next version. A second minor thing: I also noticed that if you move the mouse over the shutdown icon on the bottom right a pop-up menu is shown with the label Shutdown, the same of the previous version 10.10 but in my opinion this would be better translated as Chiudi. [Lubuntu-desktop] Hibernate / Suspend not working properly on Lubuntu 11.04
Hello guys, in my lubuntu 11.04 if I click on the shutdown icon on the bottom right of the bottom panel and then: - I choose *suspend* - it properly stops my pc but NOT its fans which continue on going at the same speed. It properly resume the supsended session if I click something. - I choose *hibernation* - it writes some error on the screen like[some number] codec write timeout, status = 0x660repeated more times, and then it stops my pc, but at the next restart of lubuntuit starts normally with no restored session.I've got 2Gb of ram and a swap of 10Gb, the swap is correctly formatted, listed on /etc/fstab and mounted. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] system requirements (workaround created!)
If I understand you correctly, Lubuntu 11.04 default install would (just!) fit on a 2GB (binary GB) disk. Correct. *And* the resulting install will likely be unusable due to the lack of free space. That's pretty lightweight; can you name any common desktop or laptop i386 PC architecture machines made in the the last ten years for general end user use (i.e. not embedded designs) that have less than 2GB of disk storage? I'm not sure is it common or not, but many early netbooks have ridiculously small drives. Some Asus EEE models have 2GB SSD. Hewlett Packard 6720t features just 1 GB SSD (I'm shocked!!!)
