[Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Website and Facebook Page

2011-10-05 Thread Ali Linx
Hello everyone,

I'd like to offer my help to update both www.lubuntu.net and
https://www.facebook.com/pages/lubuntu/105956559439428 but I have no idea
who is in charge of both sites at the moment?

I have noticed that Lubuntu Website never get updated on daily or weekly
basis and same goes to Lubuntu Facebook Page. I have asked before about who
is in charge of the Facebook Page but no one has replied yet. I understand
everyone is so busy at the moment but I just thought to offer my help. That
is all.

If this request will cause confusion and delay of any on going process,
PLEASE IGNORE IT.

Thanks as always!

2011-10-05 Thread Mario Behling
Hi Ali,

I am on of the persons in charge. Access to the facebook page is open
to everyone. You can continue to post there without restrictions and
put updates on the page.

Access to the lubuntu website will be given to long term active members.

Thanks for your support of the community.

2011-10-05 Thread Rafael Laguna
Yep, think so. I'm asking about it a few time ago. I'd like to change the
buttons, colours and other things to match corporative image (Canonical
people told me we were a bit lazy, I told them we were a bit alone).

I have made some graphics for it, so, if you have time I can send it to you
to upgrade them also (among CMS content, of course).

Another thing is the necessary update of the CMS theme for matching Ubuntu /
Canonical ones but blue-tuned. I heared about a template working out there.

PS. Isn't Mario Behling the admin?

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Website and Facebook Page

2011-10-05 Thread Ali Linx
@Mario

Hi and thanks for your reply, I appreciate that.

Posting to Lubuntu Page on Facebook is open but not the access as an admin.
I do believe that daily interaction with people/users is very important
IMHO. When was the last time Lubuntu Page posted an update? April 29, 2011
at 1:57PM. IMHO, that is one of the reasons why Lubuntu is not yet one of
the top 10 on distrowatch.com.
I do LOVE Lubuntu and I want to see it on top 10 and that won't be easily
achieved if people don't know about it.

Linus Torvalds, father of the Linux kernel, has had a lot of experience in
project management and leading a diverse group of developers. Last week he
shared some insight as to what goes into managing a large project and some
of the issues to avoid. One of the gems he share is, ...even if you wrote
100% of the code, and even if you are the best programmer in the world and
will never need any help with the project at all, the thing that really
matters is the users of the code. The code itself is unimportant; the
project is only as useful as people actually find it.

http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20111003#news

The above quote by Linus himself is really useful and we need to think
deeply about it. The guy is right and I do agree with him. SliTaz is much
lighter than Lubuntu and if people will find it and use it more than
Lubuntu, it might be one of the top 10. Excuse me if I'm not an expert
technical guy or a developer or Linux Guru but as one of Lubuntu Member, I
find one of my main responsibility to improve Lubuntu and see it in a better
position and I'm telling you, this OS has ALL the potential to be one of the
top 10 if not top 5.

Access to the lubuntu website will be given to long term active members.

In that case, and if someone so addicted and in love with Lubuntu, what
should he/she do?
How am I suppose to help? the website never got updated since the first time
I've seen it and that was long time ago. If there are some updates, it's
hard to notice. I'm sorry, but I feel like I'm offering my help and someone
else doesn't want that.

@Rafaell

Yep, think so. I'm asking about it a few time ago. I'd like to change the
buttons, colours and other things to match corporative image *(Canonical
people told me we were a bit lazy, I told them we were a bit alone)*.

I'm not surprised why they would call us lazy and I hate to be called lazy
because I'm not and we are not. BUT YES, we seem to be alone because we
didn't change that fact. IMHO, I don't see we are alone. How many members in
this mailing list? I guess above 700 but I don't see much action.
I don't think we are alone if we decide not to be. This is a community
project and each and every input from each and every member will surely make
a difference.

Sorry Rafaell but I have no access to any of these pages.

You are doing a great job by the way, I like your works :)

@everyone

Forgive me if I'm over reacting but I DO LOVE Lubuntu and I'd like to see
more users and more action and OH YES we can do that in no time :)

[Lubuntu-desktop] Where should I report a wrong translation??

2011-10-05 Thread Gabriel Salles
Hi,

At Orkut (something like Facebook, but really popular here in Brazil) a guy
showed me that the* Lubuntu* spelling is wrong at the Live-CD, as you can
see on the ScreenShot.
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/4243/lubunto.png
He told me that this ScreenShot is from the last daily (03/10 or 10/03).

I tried to report at the Launchpad
https://bugs.launchpad.net/lubuntu/+filebug and I have to decide between *
LXAdmin*, *Lubuntu Netbook Remix* and *Lubuntu Software Center*, but I don't
think any of this is the right option... So where should I report this?

Best regards

The ISO translation is a special case. You can have a look here for this
:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+source/gfxboot-theme-ubuntu/+pots/bootloader/pt_BR/+translate?batch=10show=allsearch=Lubuntu

Any Brazilian people should be able to correct the translation.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Website and Facebook Page

2011-10-05 Thread Phill Whiteside
Okies,

without starting a war... I am also an admin for lubuntu, net, as are a
couple of others. I am sure that if you provide a mock-up, or even just
information we will look at it.

what you may not be aware of is once lubuntu becomes assimilated by the
ubuntu community, we do want to actually have a Lubuntu area.

This is a difficult balancing act; we are asking to be fully adopted, yet
slightly seperate. For those eager to change things, may (for the 1st time
ever) I counsel caution. We have discussed making our web area a source, but
as a part of the Canonical umbrella we have done as much as we can. For
those looking at it, you will not see it. But things like tracking from the
web area directly to the wiki area was an important thing to happen. It
means that we need need to keep only one area up to date for instructions
etc.

Wiki's provide information... a good web presence gets people joining. The
links have been done, if any of you want to make a mock-up of how you would
like to see the page displayed, please do so.

@Rafael... I am sure that Mario would have no hesitation on the icons /
glyphs. I'm not a guy who knows about the finer points of editing that area,
for me the actual system chosen is a nightmare! Mainly owing to the fact me
and others have difficulty in navigating around the admin area. But, this is
usual as each system has a different admin control panel!

Ali,

please be patient, I do see your work on the areas and I'm sure you will be
a great addition to the lubuntu team. Just learn to be patient, get to know
people. Most importantly of all, do not burn out, whereby you give all your
attention to lubuntu and then get tired. We need people who will still be
here in 3 - 5 years time. It has taken this long to get here, you are
joining us as we get goal #1. To those who are patient, come the rewards.

Regards,

Phill.
