Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Calling for a Team-Work :)

2011-10-16 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi my young friend,

the system we have on the main ubuntu was granted to us (the tags) long,
long before we became official. I'm not too sure what you have in mind but I
prefer to use the main forum area with the ability to add and search tags as
per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation#How_to_help Lubuntu
had some good friends even back then, we asked people to allow Lubuntu to
avoid the 'chicken and egg' syndrome. I know and I'm sure the others do, we
were shown every courtesy and assistance. Things that should only be done
for 'official' variants were done for Lubuntu.

I'll give you the instruction one of my trainers gave me. Do NOT burn out,
you are no use to us if you burn out and leave. Rome was not built in a day
& Lubuntu has done very well from starting at about 9.04 to full acceptance
at 11.10.

Take your time, but do ensure you eat and sleep!

Phill.

[Lubuntu-desktop] SDL games not playing sound?

2011-10-16 Thread Richard Foulkes
Hi everyone,

I've got Lubuntu 10.10 running on my netbook (AOA110), and i'm really
liking it, how quick it is to boot etc.

However, two games, which use SDL audio, are silent. I've installed
libsdl-mixer1.2 and libsdl-sound1.2, but still no luck.

The games in question are Unreal Tournament, and Serious Sam (both of
which came from icculus.org). The latter gives me

" SDL_OpenAudio() : no available audio device "

When I try and configure audio within the game.

I believe this could be related to the fact lubuntu lacks pulseaudio (a
reason i like it!) - would it be worth examining the changes to the SDL
packages that occurred when ubuntu-desktop had pulseaudio integrated
(karmic i think?), and trying to work out the config file I would need
to change? I've looked all over the SDL wiki, but can't find out where
audio devices are configured.

It would be a shame if the SDL packages had to be forked just for
lubuntu, surely there's a solution that would be less drastic.

I don't actually know how to file a bug report, hence i've sent this
email. Happy to provide any information from my system that is relevant.

Thanks.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Calling for a Team-Work :)

2011-10-16 Thread Ali Linx
Hi everyone,

A friend and a mentor to me has advised me many times now to slow down and
take care but ... Linux is the cure for my issues so ... enough drama, let's
rock :)
One last email and I'm off. I did watch a movie for a change today though :P

Guys and girls, long story short. I was and still very active on Ubuntu
Forum. Now, Lubuntu became Official (YES!) and I'm sure more new threads
whether on Ubuntu Forum OR LXDE Forum (where I'm a moderator there) will be
created. I'm very much able to handle all that but I do confess and admit
that I don't know anything yet. My request is simple.

I need some people who already have an account on Ubuntu Forum to team up
with me. I'm planning for something. I'll hold it for now. I need to know
who is IN. I don't mind to be alone on this but you guys are my family and I
hate to do things alone, I do love team work. I told that to 4 new friends
on IRC recently.

I'm on Google, and you have other links on my signature. Whatever way you
want to use to contact me, just do it.

I'll be waiting for your reply for a week. Take your time :)

Why is all that? it's because the more support users will find, the better
and the faster to fix any issue.

I love you all ... you simply ROCK!

OK OK, I'm leaving ... :D

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] notification-properties and notification-daemon

2011-10-16 Thread Ali Linx
Thanks for your reply, Julien but what am I suppose to tell the users? I
mean, isn't there any other package we could have used or we can use at the
moment?

Is there anything else we need to be aware of that is not supported anymore?

No, it's currently broken, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxdm/+bug/875991
If you want a quick workaround :
sudo cp /usr/share/xsessions/Lubuntu-Netbook.desktop
/usr/share/xsessions/Lubuntu-Netbook2.desktop
gksu leafpad /usr/share/xsessions/Lubuntu-Netbook2.desktop
Remove the space in Name: (Lubuntu Netbook by LubuntuNetbook).
Reboot, and start LubuntuNetbook session instead of Lubuntu Netbook

It should work until we have a real fix.

We keep lxdm by default, but you can still install lightdm, and set it
by default.

Because the author of notification-daemon drop the support for
configuration, for the version in 11.10.

[Lubuntu-desktop] notification-properties and notification-daemon

2011-10-16 Thread Ali Linx
Hello everyone,

I'm on this case now: http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31390

On Lubuntu 11.04 which I'm still using until now, once you type
"notification-properties" in LXTerminal, it works.
On Lubuntu 11.10, it does NOT.

I searched in: /usr/share/applications and I found out that on 11.04, there
is "notification-properties" entry ONLY.
On 11.10, there is ONLY "notification-daemon" entry.

On 11.10, when I type: *notification-properties* in LXTerminal, it says
"command not found". On 11.04, it works out of the box.

What is going on? any thoughts?

Thanks!

[Lubuntu-desktop] Netbook Mode Broken in 11.10? and Where is LightDM?

2011-10-16 Thread WANG, Xiaoyun
Hi, all,

I just upgraded my netbook to lubuntu 11.10 and I found I can not log
in in lubuntu Netbook mode. Is it broken or did I miss something?

Originally, I intended to upgrade from 11.04 with mounted alternate cd
iso. I encountered an error of something like "flash downloader
failed" and the upgrade process terminated abruptly. When I rebooted
the PC afterwards, I saw new 11.10 splash screen but I was not able to
log in. At that time, I thought I had broken something because of the
unsuccessful upgrade. Therefore, I installed the new release again to
the original partition with a USB disk. The installation went smoothly
and when I tried to log in, I found that I was able to log in in LXDE
or lubuntu mode, but not lubuntu Netbook mode. I was wondering whether
it is broken in this release or there is something wrong because of my
previous upgrade failure?

Another question is I thought this release will use LightDM instead of
LXDM, but I still see LXDM and it seems LightDM is not installed at
all. Did I miss something? I'm looking forward to switching to LightDM
as I want to keep more than 1 user logged in in the netbook
simultaneously and LXDM does not let me do so.

Thanks in advance for any comment.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Possible pcmanfm bug

2011-10-16 Thread A. Andjelkovic
I'm pretty busy at the moment, but I did give 11.10 a quick run through
yesterday, I found a bug that might be pcmanfm related.
The bug in questions can be reproduced like this:

1) Open a compressed file/folder (.zip / .rar) with fileroller.
2) Extract the contents by drag & drop in to a folder.

This is where I get an error (did not write it up, please try to reproduce)
and get some kind of weird freeze.
The mouse pointer can be moved, and I could also change keyboard layout
through a self made keyboard shortcut.
However, none of my actions are registered and clicking things just didn't
do anything nor did other keyboard binds work.

I did not find anything on Launchpad (did a quick search) regarding the
following bug, so if needed, could someone create a report?
