Thanks for the quick reply, and yes - you're right, that was 2010, not 2011. I took a quick look at 2011: Gnome was up to 24 projects, and KDE up to a whopping 47! I know I'm just a newcomer and all, but thought I'd ask since for some reason it floated into what passes for my brain: With Lubuntu's new profile and popularity -- what are the chances of making more use of the Google Summer of Code project to make some strategic advances? http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/homepage/google/gsoc2011 I note that in the 2011 GSOC there were these sorts of numbers: No. of students - Sponsor project 31 - KDE 17 - Gnome 8 - Ubuntu 1 - LXDE I expect this is already on someone's radar, but with February as the date things get going, I expect it could probably use some attention in January. [Lubuntu-desktop] Integrate obkey (or the like)?
There is a small, fast, simple keybinding utility for Lubuntu available: http://code.google.com/p/obkey/ I wonder what the thinking might be on whether it (or something like it) should get bundled into a Lubuntu base install? With Lubuntu's new and growing popularity (I'm among the recent, grateful converts), it seems reasonable to think of small enhancements that will make the migration a little easier. There has been a fair bit of call in the Ubuntu forums for some simple GUI means of editing the applications menu, for example. Making assignments to keys is another one of those tasks that is easily done in other OS's, but non-trivial in Lubuntu. With obkey, there is already a solution to hand. It needs some documentation, but that is more easily done than the coding! Any reactions/responses welcome (even if to tell this new but enthusiastic use that there is a better place to raise this sort of question). Here's a suggestion for the username in the panel: does each user get their own settings for the panel? If so, then you could set up the clock display like this: %F | %R [Username] (or however you like it) to display the user's name. Just a thought... Probably me too messages are not usually welcome, but it might help to know that I have precisely this behaviour. (Toshiba Satellite A100 1.40Ghz CeleronM, 1Gb RAM). This is what I would call my normal Chromium behaviour, although at times, unexpectedly, it works sharpish and snappy with Gmail. Generally, though, I find myself with loading... message ... and waiting ... till I shut the browser down. I just checked now -- and it's behaving.
