 Hello Gabriel :)

I think you forgot to hit Reply All so I was the only one who received
your message. I think it's better to hit Reply All so everyone on the list
can read it. Never mind :)

I don't think this is a good idea to Lubuntu. I have a netbook, and when
NumLock is on, I lose the *J,K,L,U,I,O,P *letters.

Well, on my HP Pavilion DV6, I don't even have Num-Lock. Got another Laptop
at home (Toshiba) and same applies to it. Also, we do have Netbook (Samsung
150N Plus) and there is no Num-Lock at all :)
 What Netbook do you have?

 Thanks!

[Lubuntu-desktop] Where should I report a wrong translation??

2011-10-05 Thread Gabriel Salles
Hi,

At Orkut (something like Facebook, but really popular here in Brazil) a guy
showed me that the* Lubuntu* spelling is wrong at the Live-CD, as you can
see on the ScreenShot.
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/4243/lubunto.png
He told me that this ScreenShot is from the last daily (03/10 or 10/03).

I tried to report at the Launchpad
https://bugs.launchpad.net/lubuntu/+filebug and I have to decide between *
LXAdmin*, *Lubuntu Netbook Remix* and *Lubuntu Software Center*, but I don't
think any of this is the right option... So where should I report this?

Hey Gabriel,

I'm sorry to say Catfish is not being actively developed, and until somebody

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] I can use Lubuntu for remaster?

2011-11-04 Thread Gabriel Salles

http://www.redetelecentro.com.br/ . Até onde eu sei, é baseada no próprio
Debian. Penso que vale a pena conhecer este ultimo.

Abraço!

 Hello Leszek,

Kindly have a look at this:
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1874069

 Thanks!

On Wed, Nov 2, 2011 at 6:33 PM, Leszek Lesner leszek.les...@web.dewrote:

 Hi,

as I got a lot of requests to implement an autostart feature for
 lxkeymap I did it.
LXKeymap 0.5 is now capable to store its keymap configuration into a
file that it reads out during autostart.
Therefore I wrote a little *.desktop file that I put in the global
/etc/xdg/autostart which contains the new command lxkeymap -a to
trigger the autostart function of lxkeymap. The Keymap configuration
will be stored locally in your home directory ( ~/.config/lxkeymap.cfg)
and is easily editable either by using lxkeymap and set a new keymap or
 by editing it by hand.
You can get this version from here:

 http://content.wuala.com/contents/leszek/Dokumente/Share/lxkeymap_0.5-0ubuntu1_all.deb?dl=1

If you notice any bugs then report them here:
 http://launchpad.net/lxkeymap

Also I guess there is a bug in lxdm, because changing the keyboard
layout in the session and logging out to lxdm does not restore the
global keymap but uses the one choosen in the session.
This could be also fixed by simply calling lxkeymap -a from within
lxdm but as lxkeymap uses only a local configuration it would then
create and use the root accounts .config/lxkeymap.cfg file. So you need
to create this first by executing lxkeymap as root if you want to have a
different keymap globally+lxdm and your user accounts.

*Maybe chromium has some hidden resource usage not covered by the test?*

To avoid this kind of doubt, I think it is better to make a new boot, open
the Chromium Browser (with tabs and common pages), and see how much of CPU
and RAM the *whole system* are using.
Then you reboot and do the same thing with Firefox.

This would be better with the alpha version of 12.04, and not with the
final version of 11.10.

Let's not start a war here... I don't want to be rude, but please keep
such personal opinions out of this discussion.
I think we can all agree that both Firefox and Chromium are rich in
 features.
We are simply trying to find out which browser, out of Firefox and
 Chromium, use the least resources.
We want to chose the lightest of the two to be our out-of-the-box web
browser, whatever users prefer to use after that is simply an apt-get away.
Let's not think in terms of This is what I would prefer but rather This
is what a user on a low spec machine would prefer.

 Google is dropping H264 support:
 http://blog.chromium.org/2011/01/html-video-codec-support-in-chrome.html

or the fact that every browser tab in chromium is running as a different
process in a sandbox which makes a crash of one tab not concerning for
  other tabs.

Firefox might do that in the future also, but it costs memory to
sandbox each browser tab. And I believe Chromium cheats: when
available memory gets too low, tabs begin sharing the same process so
it's a bit harder to know what's really going on.

All in all I am in flavor of Chromium as its still faster and offers the
  better features.

That's a bit subjective as Firefox also offers unique features: It's
possible to run a few hundred tabs in Firefox; the design of
Chromium's tabbar makes that much more painful in Chromium. Firefox
has a much more powerful addon framework (although Chromium may
improve this next year). The user has more control over his data with
Firefox Sync than with Google's version.

While I'm not a Google-hater, I think it's very important for the free
web that Mozilla continues to exist. Since Mozilla is a bit more open
than Chromium and multiple steps more open than Android, I think open
source fans should consider supporting Firefox if the features are
nearly equal, which in my opinion they are. This is why I hope Firefox
continues to remain the Ubuntu default browser. Since Lubuntu has
different constraints in choosing default apps, I'll let Julien and
the Lubuntu devs make their own evaluation. Both browsers are fully
supported in Ubuntu (Canonical is looking to hire someone who can help
 maintain Chromium).

LxLauncher. It is the unchangeable blue wallpaper that I believe
that everybody knows about. But I think I am the only one who uses the
LxLauncher and everybody have more important things to do at the
LXDE/Lubuntu project.

I don't have the knowledge to fix that, so I'm translating what needs
to be translated (LSC, for example) and waiting the day that someone
will have the time to change what needs to be changed at LxLauncher.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Users' Threads - Help Needed

2011-12-13 Thread Gabriel Salles
Hi JerryLA

The blue wallpaper I was talking about was from the LXLauncher, like
this picture: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/images/5/5c/LXlauncher.png
You can see the LXLauncher if you choose something like Lubuntu
Netbook or if you type lxlauncher on terminal.

I didn't tested the Precise yet, cause I am waiting the Beta1. If
someone changed something at the LXLauncher, I will be very happy =] ,
but I didn't saw any e-mail with someone saying that it is now
possible to change the wallpaper from LXLauncher.

2011/12/13 Jerry jerryla...@aim.com:

I boot lubuntu precise, as it is booting it's mostly black I don't care
 doesn't last long.

Then up pops my chosen wallpaper, a picture from an Australian vacation of a
beach with my wife in a bathing suit.

I've got what I want.  I'm not sure what you're referring to?

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Users

2011-12-17 Thread Gabriel Salles
Hi all

I don't know if it is possible, but is there a way of Canonical count
how many IPs does an update? Maybe some specific update, like
software-center, lxterminal... I know that some computers still
doesn't use internet, but most of them use.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Users

2011-12-17 Thread Gabriel Salles
That won't give an accurate figure either.  Companies, universities, etc.
will have a local repo or cache and only download the update once for
thousands of machines.  Even some home users do this if they have few
 machines.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Super Key

2011-12-24 Thread Gabriel Salles
I'm having this issue too, but I prefer that, when I press the Super
key, the menu does not appear. Is this customizable?

Gabriel Salles

2011/12/24 Jean-Pierre Vidal Piesset jpx...@gmail.com:
Pressing the Super key should show the start menu in 11.10 normally. I'm not
getting this behaviour on my lubuntu laptop :(
Is this a bug or i'm the only one with this issue?

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] [Lubuntu-wiki-docs] LSC and Dependencies Talk

2012-01-16 Thread Gabriel Salles
*It would be nice if the Lubuntu software centre let the user know which
packages were also going to be installed, and also if somehow it could tell
the user if the package isn't really designed to go with Lubuntu.*

I didn't understand. Here, LSC shows all the packages that are going to be
installed with the main software.

*However, is there a reason why non-Lubuntu-approved apps are are in the
LUBUNTU Software Center? Somehow that doesn't make sense to me.*

I believe that all the softwares avaiable to Ubuntu needs to be avaiable to
Lubuntu. The user needs to have the freedom to decide what he will install.
