[Lubuntu-desktop] games

2010-06-18 Thread Josef

Hai everybody,

I want to talk about gamesYes I know you guys talk about the game
issue already , but this is different.
I like to propose I mean ask, If its possible to add games that doesn't
require heavy video card or
other heavy hardware. I like to see games in Lubuntu that make us busy
with thinking teasing our
brains like patience, sudoku or gbrainy that doesn't need special video
stuff at all.At this moment
I play games that is running on dosbox(dosgames) like digger and its fun
on my netbook.

thanks for reading my mail.

Thanks you.
Josef.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Tested on MSI Wind U100

2009-12-09 Thread Josef A. Beroeatwarin

Hai everybody

Hai I tested Lubuntu on my MSI wind U100, I am not a pro like you guys
but I like to have my hands on it because I really believe lubuntu
will be much better the Xubuntu. And of course I WANT to have a very
lightweight linux on my netbook and PC.

I am running on Ubuntu 9.10 remix installed on my MSI Wind U100, after
I while I started with Apt to install LXDE
After running on LXDE I was satisfied and very optimistic that it will
be one that I am looking for.( after a lot of switching for linux to
linux)

Here are the problems on the MSI wind U100:

* Filemanager Pcman 0.5.1 on the left windows are drives displayed
twice. if you click one of the with the same name you will get an
error-message Directory doesnt exist
* Wicd it a very nice looking piece but to bad, to while connection the
the wirelles network (WEP) ofcourse it was validated but I got an error
message Connection failed:Unable get IP Adress that was during the
status Obtaining IP address.
* I have no sound I realize I have no mixer something like that so I
dont know if its muting or not.
* FN keys. FN+F4 and FN+F5 is working very well, its for dimming the
back-light and FN+F12 sleep mode is working but after wakeup its
starting to sleep again and again after wakeup
*My bluetooth is witched on with FN+F11 but no blue-tooth detected
(sorry I forgot to listed with lsusb before installing ubuntu remix again)

* Harddisk external and flashdisk is working very well.

My Questions, request,Ideas, what I hope very soon or whatever it is.

1. The Lubuntu in alpha stage on iso, when. Ofcourse everybody is busy.
2. Lubuntu on flash disk image because there is alot of netbooks without
CD or DVD.
3. Sometimes I got netbook that has an SDcard as HDA is it compatible
with it ?
4. I think Lubuntu will be great for creating server from old PC's with
GUI interface instead having console at from your nose and doing that Vi
thing.Maybe is there somebody can make a server edition. While
installing you can choose what of kind of server do you want to install.

5. And nice front-end for backup that can make image of the drives.
6. Do you guys think that thunderbird and firefox take of computer
sources especially nower days there is allot of websites based on flash
like farmville it make even windows xp slow.
7. What is the other syntax like dmesg and lsusb that I can use to get
info out of my toys and to send to you guys.
8. Last thing that I want to say is.. I am sorry for starting asking
allot of questions even the alpha is not out yet...

Well guys thats it... I hope its enough for the input.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Tested on MSI Wind U100

2009-12-10 Thread Josef A. Beroeatwarin

To repond to the Gui interface for server.

I work daily as administrator, I have Ubuntu as internet/firewall
server. I think its easier with gui interface like LXDE. Because if I do
it in console I have to go to the forum again to get the instruction for
the setup and all that stuff and ofcourse I always forget something like
installing DHCP-server, maskirq something package in the apt. And I see
alot of people with the same profession has the same problems. And there
is allot of server with sort kind gui interface like PF-sense but its
webbased its very good.As David said it the early mail to have soho
server on a netbook. I had a situation where I needed a laptop to
replace the email server. And its amaze me again how powerfull linux can
be but the time to build up and finding other info costed me time. But
in my opinion it will be nice to have LXDE on server edition with some
programs and tutorials and sample to help out the daily problem. Even an
average administrators with good scenarios doesnt always work out the
problems in my cases specially newbies. A server on a flashdisk will be
nice in critical situation. Just plug in start the pc and take over the
network.

In a flash I remember article about Media Entertainment Server
Geexbox... A server, you can listen to the music and watch tv channels
like MythTv and if you have a tv tuner it will be great.. If I am
correct you can do even videostreaming thru wirelles to other pc's at
home... I guess its possible to install LXDE on the server so if you
acces your server you will get LXDE on your pc or other gadget and do
something with your files, printing or whatever its is just like in a
Unix terminals in the 80's and 90's.Ltsp, David you talked about that I
guess its something to do with it...

Thanks for reading,
Josef

I actually was not suggesting there should be such a remix. I was
suggesting however that one could potentially do this with mini-iso
install by selecting them explicitly at install time if we have lxde

and add lxde/lubuntu after. It can in some cases be useful to have a
local server gui console. Another interesting scenario is ltsp.

 Hello.

Just one thing I wanted to note: server GUI is a bad idea. If
you want
server, you install server, if you want a workstation on low-grade
hardware, you install Lubuntu. If you have low-grade hardware to
use as
a server, you definitely shouldn't be wasting the precious (and,
oh, so
limited!) RAM and CPU resources on GUI instead of serving something.

If someone wants to have lubuntu desktop on server, there's
always an
option of installing server then adding any desktop environment, or
maybe installing Lubuntu then switching to the server kernel. But I
think all the possible mix options should not be part of Lubuntu
installer, nor should there be a separate server+LXDE remix of
Lubuntu
 (Ubuntu?)

 Regards!
 Mikhail

PS If you don't like vi, you can use nano, it's part of the server
 install and it is WYSIWIG.

2009-12-10 Thread Josef A. Beroeatwarin

Hi again,

* So filemanager will be rewritten well its great.

*About the FN keys. I tested in ubuntu's Karmic koala with the FN+F12
sleep mode.. I had no problem with that... only the funny thing was I
realize the backlight was not flickering in LXDE like G-NOME.

*About Wicd I made a bug report.
The status is

Affects: wicd
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
https://bugs.launchpad.net/wicd/+bug/495319

*About server with GUI ofcourse different opinion is for me no problem
:-) In fact I believe differ ence make people closer

and get better point of the situation..

* About the mixer yes keep it only on the imporant channels like main
channel.

* SD card on HDA, I read about it on the launchpad, blueprint the link
was sended by David. Its ok but It possible that more of the SD card on
hda will come out maybe with the ARM processors to get cheaper
netbook. Its a big job and I have no capacity to join and fixing the
problem... I learn Java and C but I left it behind because i am more a
player than a creator... So 2 thumbs up the programmers that will fix
it.

Thanks.

Pcmanfm will be rewrite for the next release, it will be interesting to
test this on the next release, as version 0.5.X is not developed
anymore

* Wicd it a very nice looking piece but to bad, to while connection the
the wirelles network (WEP) ofcourse it was validated but I got an error

It's more a bug on wicd than on Lubuntu itself. You should report a bug
on the package.

* I have no sound I realize I have no mixer something like that so I
dont know if its muting or not.

Lubuntu will have a volume applet by default, to be able to change your
sound more easily. I don't think we need a real mixer (with all channels
configuration), most of people just want to manage the main channel.

* FN keys. FN+F4 and FN+F5 is working very well, its for dimming the

Do you test this with Ubuntu, or another variant ? It could be a problem
in general in Ubuntu, not only Lubuntu.

My Questions, request,Ideas, what I hope very soon or whatever it is.

1. The Lubuntu in alpha stage on iso, when. Ofcourse everybody is busy.

Next week for an alpha 1, if I manage to build one correctly :)

2. Lubuntu on flash disk image because there is alot of netbooks without
CD or DVD.

If you have an iso, you can create an img for flash disk. I'll do it if
I'm not too lazy :)

3. Sometimes I got netbook that has an SDcard as HDA is it compatible
with it ?

Sure, but as David said, maybe not optimized yet.

4. I think Lubuntu will be great for creating server from old PC's with
GUI interface instead having console at from your nose and doing that Vi
thing.Maybe is there somebody can make a server edition. While

Well, I personally think that server with GUI is a bad idea, but it's
just personal opinion :)

6. Do you guys think that thunderbird and firefox take of computer
sources especially nower days there is allot of websites based on flash

Firefox is still on Lubuntu, but maybe not for too long :)

7. What is the other syntax like dmesg and lsusb that I can use to get

lspci or a graphical tool like hardinfo

8. Last thing that I want to say is.. I am sorry for starting asking

It's very good to have feedback from user :)

I installed blueman from synaptic and its working. Pairing, sending files

sending back to my netbook it doesnt work because it doesnt detect maybe its
invisible my netbook I have to find out what it is...from the netbook
browsing my mobile doesnt work and I got this error failed to launch
nautilus [Errno 2] No such file or directory

About the 3G modem Huawei E220.
There is a gui interface, Its the Network-manager itself in Ubuntu Koala
karmic...I used in Hardy heron, Ibex interprid but I dont why in the koala
karmic is not connecting to provider but its still detecting the presents of
my modem

About the Cannot obtaining IP adress problem...
It was in the WEP mode...But I can tell you in Ubuntu Koala Karmic including
Kubuntu Koala Karmic and latest Wattos RC1 that is using Network-manager is
working fine I didn't met any problem at all So my suggestion is to go
with the Network-manager like in Ubuntu for temporary.

I have a question I am not so good in doing with linux, but I like to
install network-manager in my lubuntu so I can go further with trying
something out.. I realize if I throw out wicd I wont get network-manager
installed... Can you tell me how to install network-manager on my lubuntu
toy

Yes, by default lxdm launch lxde instead of lubuntu. It's something to
 fix in the lxdm package.

About the Wicd, Its still a problem connecting WIFI,I still got that

Do you have the problem only with WEP or with any encrypted connection
(WEP or WPA). It'll be interesting to test with network-manager (or with
a ubuntu lucid live-cd) if it's a general problem or a wicd bug.

I plugged my modem Huawei E220 in my netbook. And it was detected. But

I don't know if a GUI for such modem exist. Do you have something to
configure this on a standard Ubuntu installation ?

Could you try to launch bluetooth-properties and bluetooth-applet and

Hi all Lubuntu geeks or whatever :-)

So its sound like we are so close with the release of Lubuntu. Green is
nice and for the one that took time to make the green logo thank you...
I like to have a different colour... because kubuntu is blue, ubuntu is
brown xubuntu is grey, wattos (ubuntu derived and using lxde) is green
just like opensuse.
I like to see purple with a combination with black or grey... I not a
really a purple lover I am more of green or blue but... I what to see
something different with a own status of colour and with the the logo of
ubuntu as sign where we come from
So guys what do you think of purple with black, grey maybe metalic,
ofcourse its sound heavy but its still runs light...

huawei e220. its Doesn't detected in nm-applet but in lsusb it is detected.
In the first alpha stage it was working with NM-applet with the latest
kernel upgrade.

Tonight I will try again using PPP or wvdial.

Somebody talk about games.. where is the tread?? :-D
I really need 2 games that is really working on my netbook :-D

Gdebi installer would be nice or something like that in Lubuntu??

And does Gdebi really help for people that has no internet. Because in
Indonesia
not everybody can affort internet connection. And even if they have
it,it will be cellphone using as modems.
It would be nice if there is something like that for updating packages
or what-ever to install/update without internet

in deb packages.

1) a lot of people hide it away, or even disable, when using windows,
as most people dont need it and it causes problems, when the lng gets
switched (in poland it used to be very common quite a few years ago,
that Y and Z were switching because of some key shortcut that was
unnknown to most users) - i think that feature is good only for truly

relatively few of them
2) stationary PC's don't have batteries, and this is supposed to be

1) ok. It was only my opinion.
