[Lubuntu-desktop] RES: Black laptop screen when installing Lubuntu 11.04

2011-05-03 Thread Fabio Silva
Same thing..

My dv6000 do not install de new version, then I tried to install regular
ubuntu, same result. I guess it is due to some screen resolution config. I will
check foruns when I get a free time.

Assunto: [Lubuntu-desktop] Black laptop screen when installing Lubuntu 11.04

Hi everyone,

I was trying to install Lubuntu 11.04 in my laptop. However, after booting into
LiveCD and select Install Lubuntu, the I found screen just went black.
However, the CDROM was still working. I could not continue my installation just
because of that. And I don't know what kind of diagnosis information I should
post here. Could anyone please help? Thanks very much.

[Lubuntu-desktop] OFF Lubuntu 10.10 is not for old computers

2011-03-29 Thread Fabio Silva
On my lap top Toshiba a105 Lubuntu did not run well, I was getting pissed of
so I decided to go back to xp on this one! Last few days I got a new(old)
lap top HP pavilion dv-6000 1Gb ram core duo Nvidea etc.

The installation of lubuntu fail 3 times. I got some black screen or random
error ( I guess it is normal, at least for me happens on almost every linux
setup) the good thing is linux setup is much faster them the Other OS.

After install, wireless Broadcom did not work but it was easy to install the
drivers and lubuntu are running so dam fast to turn on/off. My java
applications too.

Cromiun start to crash due to problems with flash. I tried many things but
the solution was install firefox (works out of the box) Firefox should be
standard browser!

I did the update an now the lubuntu screen has gone, now ubuntu boot screen
is shown during the boot L can I restore it?

I want to congratulate the community, now I am having a good experience with
linux, I realized that is a matter of time to get more practice. And I have
a question.. Is it possible( in a easy way) to remove the standards programs
like chromium, text processor, calc etc..

I tried to uninstall but a message ask me if I want to remove LXDE desktop.

Now I can watch/edit videos, listen on-line radio and programming. Thinking
how proud of myself I am just because I installed few programs via terminal,
I was wondering how you guys fell building an entire OS.

[Lubuntu-desktop] RES: Ask yourself...

2011-02-25 Thread Fabio Silva
[Quote]

What should Lubuntu do?

I realize that being lightweight is a major focus for Lubuntu and I agree
100%. But keep in mind that the average user will have expectations for
their OS and that not everyone will use it only on older hardware (Lubuntu
is too nice not to use it on modern hardware!)

My main point is that Lubuntu should be for everyone and not just us
tweakers and geekers. I want to be able to install it on anyone's
computer and not have to worry about what it won't do for them.

So my question is what dose the average user expect their OS to do out of
the box? Pretend you are putting it on someone's machine. Maybe your
mother, or the neighbor who has never used anything other than Windows.
What will they expect?

Here's my list:
- be efficient (most overlooked by most OS)
- handle music, video and Internet
- find anything on my local network
- download and open files properly
- let me use it with external monitors/TV as a basic media player (HDMI out)
- have basic office apps (even though I don't use them)
- allow basic personalization (LXDE's lack of menu editor is a bummer, but I
don't fault anyone for that.)

Lubuntu has come pretty close to meeting my expectations. I've had to tweak
a little bit and I might still be missing a few things here and there, but
overall, I love it. The one area it blows everything else away is with it's
efficiency. It seems like that's the most overlooked item in all the other
Ubuntu variants I've used.

I agree but I am a very beginner user and I stopped using lubuntu due to
networks problems, I wasn't able to find my network places like I do in
windows or ubuntu. to a user like me, it is not acceptable have to write
codes to find the network or mount a pen drive every time I need. Those
things should work OFB. Is screen saver, wall paper and some personalization
realy important right now? There is many flavors of linux doing it. what I
want from lubuntu is a reliable, robust and fast OS. I don't want my OS
consuming my computer resources! Vista already does it. I guess to not have
screen saver to save energy sounds like an selling argument! it can be
turned into a good thing. you know what I mean??

If you want to know how a regular user feels like about lubuntu, ask me ! I
am one..heheh

Sorry about my lack of english..

[Lubuntu-desktop] Network issue.

2011-01-06 Thread Fabio Silva
I decided to left lubuntu and GO back to regular ubuntu. Is better wait then
never do! Lubuntu is much faster than ubuntu, light and clean.. I loved but I
cant make my usb work, Windows network does not work either. I tried many
tutorials but no really help was given. Nautilus almost worked...
I thought Lubuntu was the solution but it is more or less like Arch linux. It
is just a distro that left many stuffs out to be lightweight, If you need
something you must put by yourself.

Unfortunately for people like me (beginner) it is a pain in the a**. I guess
lubuntu will be even better than ubuntu when few thing work out of the box as
network, USB sticks etc..

I wish I knew how to programming to help the community but I don't :(

[Lubuntu-desktop] RES: Network issue.

2011-01-06 Thread Fabio Silva

It did not work. I already have this package! package gvfs-bac

I won't bother you guys with my lack of knolegment. I decided to move to
linux a little time ago when I started to learn java language.

I have no more time to fix things or try to learn how to use it. My focus
must be java. I work maintaining windows machines, and it is weird because I
find myself just like a kid when I use linux, I don't understand names,
commands, expressions.I will be back to XP/Ubuntu and see what happens. When
I fell more confident with linux ill try lubuntu again.

Thanks guys..
