Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Application discussion for the Natty cycle

2010-11-06 Thread Fredrik Andersson
I agree on both: )

A simple gul for alsa is a good idea.
And for deadbeef i can just say...awesome.
Im using ut myself and i like it, light and fast but comes with capability
to play everything i have tried.

 Hello everyone,

we should make a start on the application discussion, I guess.
Just to start, I have got some ideas.

**Add gnome-alsamixer*
Lubuntu lacks an easy gui way of changing sound levels, I know of alsamixer
but it´s CLI and looks confusing IMHO.
We could have both installed, or CLI lovers could install it after
installing Lubuntu.
This way I think everybody is happy.

**Try to get Deadbeef in the repo and add it*
Deadbeef 0.4.2 came out a few weeks ago, and I noticed something interesting
in the release notes.

merged in DUMB 0.9.3 (mainly to satisfy debian lawyers)

0.4.3 is out now, which is a bugfix release.
Can deadbeef be added to the repo´s now?

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] cmov

2010-10-21 Thread Fredrik Andersson
I dont know anything about packaging and all but, if there was possible to make
Lubuntu compatible for i586 that would be great.
And if Canonical/buntu dont support it it would be nice if we could offer that.
But anyway guys this is just some toughts so dont hurt me :)

Is there any chance that we keep supporting these old machines?
I don't see any reason to force the use of i686.
Only the compiler flags need to be changed.
All programs should be able to be compiled with i586.
If supporting i586 is not allowed by Canonical, then I personally
 think we need a fork.
A distro aimed to provide best desktop experience for old and limited
machines doesn't run on old machines at all. This is really ironic,
 isn't it?

Hey,

I just tried installing Lubuntu 10.10 on a K6 450 notebook and ran into
the cmov missing problem.
Since this distribution is designed to run on low end machines cmov
support should be compiled into the kernel
(imho).

I just wanted to check if you're already aware of the missing cmov
support in recent kernels.

   Sadly, yes.  See  this thread
   https://lists.launchpad.net/lubuntu-desktop/msg02587.html

We’ll probably have to support 10.04 for a bit longer for these machines.

Yeah let me know when and if you do this so i can write it down @ forum
aswell.
building it up from scratch.

2010/10/17 Phill Whiteside phi...@phillw.net

 Hiyas gang,

It's been a bit a hectic, and I've missed out a couple of pages on my
frantic running around, notably adding the Maverick mini-iso link to
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp/MinimalInstall (now
done) and the addition of the installation lubuntu-core to the minimal
 installation instructions.

I'm assuming (always a bad thing to do), that for ubuntu core I would need
to add a section that repeated the standard installation instructions but
 replaced

 sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends lubuntu-desktop

 with

 sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends lubuntu-core

 Regards,

 Phill.
