Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] [Lubuntu-Desktop] Sound Editing Software

2011-08-22 Thread Rafael Laguna
I experienced that, once removed PulseAudio, Audacious turned wild, and
need to reconfigure it via plugins (ALSA). Sound levels gone zero. It seems
that Pulse works fine with some apps, not with others.

Similr issue here (warning, old forum post!):
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8284273

But now most users do not recommend to removed it, because of it's a deep
integrated layer, and may be dangerous.

I've had to adjust the mic balance in alsamixer to get the mic working on
my last few laptops. Seems to be a bug were both channels can't be at full
volume. It's pretty common for people trying to use Skpe with
Acer/Gateway/Packard Bell laptops needing to do this. A quick internet
 search might help.

Also, there is a toggle in alsamixer to turn lines on and off. I think it
 worked with my hardware.

I know it's just a workaround. Sorry I can't be of more help.

 Tim

Thanks Tim, i've take a look at it but finally it seems that it's something
with Lubuntu + Pulseaudio (or just pulseaudio?)... removing pulseaudio makes
audacity to work again and the levels can be set to 100% again.

Ps: does anyone have a clue why if i install pulseaudio the sound of
everything in my laptop is better?

you have checked from alsamixer you dont have microphone muted or on low
 level settings?

Alsa Mixer doesn't work well... i doesn't allow me to turn the mic nor the
 line on/off.
It's suposed that Audacity controls the levels himself, but it doesn't
 work...
There's nothing to do here... ???

[Lubuntu-desktop] [Lubuntu-Desktop] Sound Editing Software

2011-08-16 Thread Jean-Pierre Vidal Piesset
Hi.

In Lubuntu 10.04 i was able to run Audacity and Jokosher for record
guitar+voice. Today Lubuntu let me down with those two programs!! Can't
record a single sound with the microphone!! Am I the only one experiencing
this? (in mswin it works, so it's not a hardware problem / the programs used
to work in previous kernels so i doubt that it can be a driver problem since
my laptop is pretty old)
