I'd suggest that you do some investigate to see what's the cause of
performance problems of software center first, and to see if avoiding
them is possible. If it's not possible to avoid the performance
problems, then go for a simplified synaptic.

i think that sometimes rewrite is better than cleanup the code, and i
dont' know if the authors of USC will be available.
anyway, we are in democracy XD and this is the spirit of the
open-source, i'm available to write python apps.

Writing and mantaining own application of this importance can be
tedious and risky task. Maybe we should first just assess what components of
Ubuntu SW center make it slow and RAM consuming. If possible, second
step could be to compile an Ubuntu SW center version which would have minimal
dependenci
i can say that on my 64 bit system lubuntu software center uses 50 MB
RAM less than ubuntu software center (30 mb). the script will be less
weight than 1 MB, it depends only on gtk and apt.
anyway i think that lubuntu software center should be a kind of more
user-friendly synaptic, and not a totall
