Hi,

I tried using DeaDBeeF, and I don't seem to find a music library
option. Is the library feature really non-existent, or am I missing
something?

Thank you,

At our big application discussion mail we pretty much came to the
conclusion that we would not replace the browser, IM client, media

As there is not much left I came to that conclusion, and I also told

And I don´t agree with you on sending false information and making FUD

Also Glenn, could you please stop sending false informations outside

Please add feedback to blueprints (see the Roadmap) and mailing list

it's a music PLAYER. NOT a BROWSER/ORGANISER with addition of player,
like amarok, exaile, songbird, itunes and other such. infact, it's
very, VERY similar to foobar on windows - so then it doesn't have any
bloating trash-features like some libaries and such IMO worthless
unnessesary stuff. And I hope it will be so for ever, now it is IMO
nearly perfect (it lacks only support for other playlists formats and
MAYBE a scrobbler, which also is unncessesary I guess).

  Hello,

I am sending this mail because of the advise Julien Lavergne gave me
 in
our big ¨Lubuntu application discussion for maverick¨ discussion. :P

This mail is about discussing Aqualung replacing with Exaile.
Exaile is a bit like a lightweight rhythmbox, it loads quickly and
supports a lot of music files. Through Synaptic you can even install a
plugin for Ipod support, and you can also install a plugin for pidgin
 so
pidgin can display the music song you are listening with Exaile.
Exaile uses about 18,8 mb of memory on idle, and Aqualung uses 9.9 mb
 of
memory on idle (LXmusic 2.7 mb :P )
Exaile has many advantages, it is not gray and not odd looking like
Aqualung (which looks weird in every Desktop Enviroment) less
dependencies, more support because of a bigger project. (e.g Exaile
 has
a good launchpad page with bug reporting and translating all open to
everyone, Aqualung hasn´t got a launchpad page.)
Is the 9 mb difference in memory consumption acceptable in Lubuntu? Or
 a
slightly different question, is it worth the sacrifice? (Atleast I
 think
it definetly is, but what about you guys?)

Hi,
Downloaded and playing. VERY impressed :-) It has the logical Open File /
Folder / Place / CD that is 'hidden' in Aqualung and also quite visible
playlist saving.

It's a +1 from me !!

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Replacing Aqualung with Exaile [DISCUSSION]

2010-05-16 Thread Julien Lavergne
I need to test it before add my opinion to this. I just would like to
add some notices :
- we can't use a ppa for the lubuntu release, we need a real release
from upstream
- if it's not in the repository, we can add it, it's not a real
problem, but we need some time to do it properly.

Also, until I can study this choose, just consider that we still use
aqualung. If it needs too much maintainance, we will keep aqualung.

Julien (still in vacation for some days)

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Replacing Aqualung with Exaile [DISCUSSION]

2010-05-16 Thread CAD Outsourcing
Glenn,

The mere existence of Lubuntu loses it's purpose if you start bloating it.
Why bother, going through all the trouble of making an environment like LXDE
work with Ubuntu wich it doesn't work as well with as Gnome, if in the end,
there isn't anything to distinguish it but the labeling?

I am sure your comments about quantity of dependencies transcends across the
OS, and is not limited to just the music player. We are probably all hoping
for a better knoppix, with Lubuntu: auto-detection, codecs, speed, light
weight, to name a few.

You start making these kind of decisions here, there, everywhere, and before
you know it, your distro is double the bloat and half the speed.

Some of these recommendations may better serve the main edition of Ubuntu
and Mint. But when you are looking at making small and fast, you may have
to make some trade-offs.

Proposed Solution: one thing you may want to do, is build it with the
faster, more efficient tools. Users can always use Synaptic to install
whatever they prefer - those will be the users with the 160GB+ hard drives
and who really don't care about disk space. And the ones with more compact
resources, like a Netbook with a solid state hard drive, those with older
laptops, will all be grateful that the bloat is out and Lubuntu is as fast
small and efficient as it can possibly be.

On the first sight, it looks great, and it takes little memory. I think you
all made the right decision to make DeadBeef (strange name:p) as default.
I'm just came to this team so I don't know exactly how things works. The
installation of Lubuntu on my PC crash all the time, (See the
bughttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/522031)
The LiveCD works on my old PIII, only live. But live is fast too. I
overlocked that old pc to 1 GHz with more than 300 MB memory in it. I think
that Lubuntu will be on the next release part of the family.
