[Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu base/minimal desktop
Just been talking with someone about a spin of Lubuntu he made himself. It's basically the live CD with out the applications. The only stuff on it are the System Tools and Preferences menu, and Terminal and Leafpad in the Accessories menu. The idea being that people can install their preferred apps. or for use on Eeepc netbooks with 2 gig SSD where not every thing from the live CD may be needed. One thing we did wonder was, would people need a browser as part of the install or would they rather just pick the one they want from Synaptic. -- Steve Cook (Yorvyk) http://lubuntu.net ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Sounds interesting. I would think that if you are leaving all other apps up to the user you minus well leave the browser up to them as well. You should have quite the same by installing lubuntu-core instead of lubuntu-desktop on a minimal install. Most people wants all the work done. Just install the system and start to browse the web, write an e-mail and two or three more things. No complications and no effort looking for programs. Believe me, there're plenty people like this. That's why most of them use Windows, not for applications, but finding them is so easy and don't want to change. And I think giving a complete operating system like Lubuntu is a good idea. Anyway is a great iniciative for other kind of users. -- ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi, This idea is really cool. I think you could add a lightweight web browser and set its homepage to be a local HTML page which displays some guide how to use the LiveCD or recommends some lightweight applications for users to choose.
