Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Opera browser on lubuntu

2010-07-04 Thread Andrew Woodhead
There is a generic Opera repository available at http://deb.opera.com (with
full description of how to add it). Canonical repository for Opera no longer
works.

deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free

The line above will make sure you get all final public releases. Add the
following line if you want to get the newer alpha and beta releases instead.

deb http://deb.opera.com/opera-beta/ stable non-free

It is advisable that you add the Opera GPG key.

wget -O - http://deb.opera.com/archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

(If you get "The following packages cannot be authenticated" warnings,
you'll also need this:)

sudo apt-get install debian-archive-keyring

Install via the shell

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install opera

2010-07-04 Thread Andrew Woodhead
To install a deb file you can use:

sudo dpkg -i file.deb

And it will install, you can make apt attempt to satisfy dependancys (if
they are needed) with:

sudo apt-get -f install

Should be fine

Forgot to ask in my previous post. Why have you titled your post 'Opera
browser on lubuntu'?

If you have already downloaded the deb file just double-click it and Gdebi
Package installer should be launched.
For updates, you can either install update-manager and use that or open a
terminal and use
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Automatic notification isn’t available in 10.04 because of problems with the
indicator applet.
