[lubuntu-users] Trouble installing 16.04 via live USB, hard drive prob?
Hello guys. I'm using lubuntu. I decided to do a clean upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 via live USB. I didn't bother to format the partition (where 14.04 was installed) before running the live USB, since the installation process gives you the option of doing so, correct? Also, after formatting on the fly, the used space was 800+ mb, is this normal? When it was done, I couldn't boot into lubuntu. Only a black screen with a phrase that says something about blocks. Then it just sits there. Upon booting again with live usb, I noticed the partition still had only 800+ mb used space, which means lubuntu did not install? I've tried several times, same result. I thought live USB was the problem because it can only "Install Lubuntu" but not "Try Lubuntu without installing". But booting the live USB in another computer could do both tasks. So now I'm confused. Is the problem hard drive or live USB? [e] Don't assume that, for instance, something that occurs in a VM occurs on real hardware; they're not the same. #3 This issue is trivially resolved. I've had it myself. Google for assistance or apply some general knowledge before shouting complaints into the void. Apply the standard Linux steps for display corruption: switch to text mode and back. I.e., Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to a text vconsole, and then Ctrl-Alt-F7 back to the X.org screen. If you're running in VirtualBox, then as you should already know, these keystrokes go to the host OS, so you need to use the VBox host key instead of Ctrl-Alt. I did this, the display cleared, I installed as normal, updated, and all was well. I then installed the VBox guest additions so I got an accelerated display. -- Liam Proven • Profile: http://lproven.livejournal.com/profile Email: lpro...@cix.co.uk • GMail/G+/Twitter/Flickr/Facebook: lproven MSN: lpro...@hotmail.com • Skype/AIM/Yahoo/LinkedIn: liamproven Cell/Mobiles: +44 7939-087884 (UK) • +420 702 829 053 (ČR) -- Lubuntu-users mailing list Lubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/lubuntu-users
Re: [lubuntu-users] lubuntu 16.04.1 Live CD
Hi Neil. I haven't had Lubuntu fail to install. I tend not to use it as a live CD as the computers I work on are rather old and not really suited for that task. I refurbish old PCs on behalf of a mental health charity, Contact, and they are given to Contact's members, their carers or families. What kind of processor is being used? What make and model of graphics card? How much memory is available to Lubuntu? It might be worthwhile running memtest86+ to verify that the system's RAM is OK.
