Re: [lubuntu-users] lubuntu 16.04.1 Live CD
Hi again, please provide: /var/log/Xorg.0.log Also, please try this on your actual hardware to see if the bug is reproducable. You might also try the initial Lubuntu Xenial release to see if the bug is present there. http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/16.04/release/ This will help narrow down the issue, and when it was introduced On 08/09/2016 07:43 PM, Neill Rutherford gmail.com wrote: ... -- Regards -- Lubuntu-users mailing list Lubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/lubuntu-users

Ok, so to troubleshoot Xorg look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log and look for errors. If you need help please use pastebin and send the link so we can examine it. This is the first step to find out what is wrong with your graphics. It *could* be a driver issue, or something else is wrong. Re: [lubuntu-users] lubuntu 16.04.1 Live CD
Hi, So, as I understand it you are saying that all the other _Ubuntu 16.04 flavors work just fine_, but _Lubuntu does not_. In my experience VirtualBox is not a very good judge of whether something 'works' or not, but that aside this is indeed a real problem. I do not think your point got through very well on this list because of the way you stated it. "THIS IS A BAD ADVERT FOR LUBUNTU" Sounds hostile in an e-mail, when you may really have meant it to be something that was meant to be more like an alarm. This is important to focus on and fix! Feel free to dive in and help! Thanks for testing this, could you test the LiveCD on real hardware as well, to see if it effects the actual computer, or if it is a VirtualBox glitch, this will help people to determine the root of your issue more clearly. It does seem to be an Xorg issue Thanks again for your input, but do try to explain your issue a bit differently next time so people will not feel that you are 'trolling' or 'attacking' them when you are, in reality, *VERY* concerned for the initial user experience. Neill, Several people have asked you information to help troubleshoot this problem but from what I can tell you have not provided this information. Without that, it's impossible to fix your problem regardless of how nicely you act or how much you shout. If you want help, answer all the questions asked and try suggestions given. Oy, sorry about that last email: I tried out lxqt with i3, and the i3 workstations work with the default lxqt panel as you probably already know. Not only that, but the application buttons work too. [lubuntu-users] i3 Workspaces Plugin and LXQT Modularity
I humbly suggest a look at the cost and benefits of making i3 easily incorporated into the LXQT desktop. This would require programming a plugin for the LXQT toolbar. Here is this version of a plugin that incorporates into XFCE and Xubuntu: https://launchpad.net/~aacebedo/+archive/ubuntu/xfce4-i3-workspaces-plugin Here is an example of how easy and effective it is is incorporate i3 into XFCE: http://feeblenerd.blogspot.com/2015/11/pretty-i3-with-xfce.html LXQT is faster than XFCE, and allowing i3 to easily meld with it is a perfect match that should exist. A lot of people would find this functionality very appealing. Re: [lubuntu-users] Trouble installing 16.04 via live USB, hard drive prob?
This message makes no sense to me. On 9 August 2016 at 06:26, Marlon Ngwrote: > Hello guys. I'm using lubuntu. I decided to do a clean upgrade from 14.04 to > 16.04 via live USB. Hang on. Do you actually know what these words mean? Either you can do a clean install, which is not an upgrade. The word "clean" means "no trace of a previous system". Or, you can do an upgrade, which is by definition not "clean". Which did you want? Which did you mean in your message? > I didn't bother to format the partition (where 14.04 was > installed) before running the live USB, since the installation process gives > you the option of doing so, correct? Er, yes it does. But you can't do an upgrade from USB image. To upgrade, you use the running system and run the update manager. The "alternate ISO" which had an upgrade script was dropped after 12.10: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2012-August/035675.html > Also, after formatting on the fly, What does "formatting on the fly" mean? > the used space was 800+ mb, is this > normal? Hi Marlon. On 9 August 2016 at 05:26, Marlon Ngwrote: > Is the problem hard drive or live USB? > > I would have told the installer to format the partition. You can check for hard drive problems by trying to run gnome-disks and looking at the "Assessment" section for your hard drive.
