I'm not religious about Poulton or arm postures. But if you look at pictures and videos, you will more often than not find that compromise posture where the right crosses the strings in something like a 45° angle. You will notice even a few baroque lute players with thumb-in technique. All I'm

Dear Luca: I have tried silk strings by Alexander Raykov on my lute and they are quite nice. I think the basses are particularly superior to most gut basses I have tried. I would use them again if I ever got around to working out the diameters and tension. Ron Andrico
