[LUTE] summary sheet of new Intavolations

2012-07-29 Thread Anton Höger
Hi,
Now I have all files on IMSLP checked and found that approximately 25% of the
files with the same file-name, were wrong! Either as a lute tablature, where a
guitar notation should be actually or vice versa as guitar notation where a
lute tablature was actually listed.

-Now I made them all right! -

I hope that I have overlooked any. So where a guitar notation (complete score)
shoul be now- there is one- and where a lute tablature should be (Lutescore) is
now also one.

But what really surprises me at all the many downloads, is that so far no one
has logged and said, Hi, do you know, that when I am trying to download a lute
tabulature I will get a guitar notation! Or vice versa!

So please mail me any kind of mistake!

Not to strain the lute mails, I'll mail only summary sheets.

Here is my first summary sheet

   Dear Anton Hoger,

   You write:

' But what really surprises me at all the many downloads, is that so
far no one has logged and said, Hi, do you know, that when I am
trying to download a lute tabulature I will get a guitar
   notation!
 Or vice versa!'

Taco Walstra did precisely this - perhaps you now might thank him. Of
course, it may also be an indication that mostly guitarists were
   playing your transcriptions.

   regards

[LUTE] request: original 'Flow my tears'

2012-07-29 Thread William Brohinsky
Luters,

I am in need of the original version of 'flow my tears' (whatever the
spelling) from Dowland's second book of ayres. I am specifically
looking for white mensural notation and lute tablature, as well as the
original lyrics in their originally printed spellings.

I know that this is in the English Lutenist Song Writers' collection
of facsimiles, and I know that the volume it is in resides at UCONN,
which is a mere 45 minutes away, but between my new job (yea!) and my
music preparations I just don't have the time to get up there and
cajole the volume to a copier.

Does anyone have this one song in a PDF? My intention for use is to
provide it to my family for my youngest daughter's home-school music
recital. (Youngest for the moment, since, also yea!, we are in the
process of adopting our foster daughter, whose chances at Dowland are
still a decade and a few fortnights in the future!)

Direct email responses may be better than responses to the list,
copyright violation complaints as well (since it is well established
that the visual print contents of facsimiles are the property of their
composers and printers, and in the case of Dowland and his publisher,
are quite out-of-date.)

may your guts never rot,
william (formerly ray, the one in CT)

David - as art in the service of political/economic provocation, art still wins
- bravo.

However, I wonder how Harry C. could ever pretend to be able to locate an
address for J.S.B. to send the royalty check?

Cheers, David

[LUTE] Midwest lute maker

2012-07-29 Thread Hart-Slater, Quentin
   Hello Listserv,

I am in something of a pickle and need the loan of some expertise.

I purchased a 13 string (7 course?) lute on Michigan Avenue,
Chicago, in around 1999, one of two that the music store had by the
same maker, for which I paid a princely sum, a gift for my wife. There
were two documents related, a receipt and a valuation, one of which I
have lost. The lost document bears the name of the maker, which I have
forgotten, and the store has long since closed (closed promptly after I
purchased said instrument, telling, in and of itself).

The tag inside the lute says The Renaissance Gilde, Box 5 Cambridge
Wisconsin and June '88 and seems to be signed Jim Rubio although
the maker I was told was a different name, possibly William Daum.

The instrument is about to see the light of day as my wife is to take
lessons with a virtuoso new to the city, I would love to be able to
report accurately on the origins of the lute.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

   Cordially

 Quentin Hart-Slater
