I've also been wondering if the reference is to the performer or audience
member... If the latter, I would think another product to prevent the dropping
of jaws in response to a lute performance (whether particularly good or bad)
might be a market as well.

I’ve never seen a flute player using anything like a Yamaha Lip Plate Patch;
maybe lips (more accurately, “that bit of the face above the chin and below the
lower lip") slipping from the lip plate is a problem for flute players only
during a lute performance.
