Dear friends,
Please help me spread the word about a new lute workshop that is scheduled in London, Ontario this May. The course will be associated with the Canadian Renaissance Music Summer School ([1]https://www.crmss.org/), which has been a highly successful vocal/choral program started 3 years ago by the brilliant conductor Greg Skidmore. Iâve been involved in the workshop each summer as course accompanist and been extremely impressed with the level of instruction and quality of the workshop performances. CRMSS is growing each year and is ready to start incorporating instrumentalists into the course in 2020, starting with a modest lute workshop over Victoria Day Weekend. The faculty will include myself (Lucas Harris) and Terry McKenna. Wilma van Berkel will also be onsite as âlute doctorâ and facilitator. The final details are still to be worked out (and will be customized to the interests of the participants), but activities will likely include lute ensembles, a technique class, masterclasses, private lessons, lute song coachings, and a lute maintenance seminar. Onsite will also be some wonderful UK-based faculty on the vocal side of the course, including soprano Emma Atkinson, tenor Matthew Long, as well as the special guest Robert Hollingworth, the director of I Fagiolini. The course will begin late in the afternoon of Friday, May 15, and there will be a faculty concert that evening of Terry and I playing Renaissance lute duets. The final event of the course will be a public concert at Londonâs St. Peterâs Basilica which will feature the choral program as well as the lute ensemble. This concert will begin at 2:30pm on Sunday May 17 and finish around 4:30pm, at which time the workshop will be finished. Tuition will be $200 CAD (around $150 USD). There is some affordable dormitory housing available at Huron College, but adult participants are advised to look into Airbnb accommodations.
