The strange thing is that at the end of the snapshot, all the files and
directories had been copied to the snapshot directory but the snapshot
process initiated by the snapshot command never got

Just a stupid question; did you try to copy 25GB on this space with rsync
otherwise ? I mean it could be a "not enough space" problem or any other
issue not directly related to the snapshot itself.

What is the underlaying filesystem? I bet you don't use ZFS or
