Doug Kaufman dixit: The first is a change to aclocal.m4 from test -f to test -x. This To quote *(autoconf-2.60.info)Limitations of Builtins:: `test' (files) To enable `configure' scripts to support cross-compilation, they shouldn't do anything that tests features of the build system instead of the host system. But occasionally you may find it necessary to check whether some arbitrary file exists. To do so, use `test -f' or `test -r'. Do not use `test -x', because 4.3BSD does not have it. Do not use `test -e' either, because Solaris `/bin/sh' lacks it. To test for symbolic links on systems that have them, use `test -h' rather than `test -L'; either form conforms to Posix 1003.1-2001, but older shells like Solaris 8 `/bin/sh' support only `-h'. //mirabile -- I believe no one can invent an algorithm. Probably most English speakers want the internationalized version (link #10): http://prdownloads.sourceforge.jp/lynx-win32-pata/19739/Lynx286dev17TH.exe;. As Doug points out, this distribution has an _installer_; just double click should do it. Thanks a lot for this link, and thanks to the one who developed this version. I downloaded this version and it worked quite fine for posting messages in newsgroups, I didn't have to use the lynx.cfg file at all. Just the newspost:// command, and it worked, where the version downloaded from http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/wlynx/lynx_w32.2.8.2rel.1.zip didn't work. Maybe a bug in this version, or a needed setting in the .cfg file that I wasn't able to set and that the installer did for me. Anyway, I know where to ask my questions when I have further questions (special 8 bit characters, why Lynx displayed some text in French, I'll have to look at that). Let me put a few remarks about the lynx home page, though: Before subscribing to the mailing-list, when I just visited the website I thought that the project wasn't maintained at all since a few years. Some tutorial links are broken, and executable versions for Dos and Windows are not up to date. IMHO some little updates, not to say an overhaul would make sense, especially for basic users like me. This is used to print the content of USEMAP links when doing a dump, such as at the end of a PRINT command. It is printing the contents of USEMAPs not just for the current document, but also for previously visited documents. ... I don't see this happening with my configuraton on Linux. Perhaps it's a difference in configuration, or the method. Visiting the first URL, I simply did a 'g' and pasted the second URL before printing the second page. That is exactly what I did, but I got the USEMAP from the first URL when I printed the second one. I saw the same behavior with both DJGPP and MingW binaries of dev.16, dev.17, and dev.18. I have now tried this with multiple changes in configuration and can't find a setting that doesn't show this, aside from turning off links are numbered. I also see the inappropriate USEMAP printed if I activate a link from my bookmark page then go (using g) to a URL that has the USEMAP, then go back (using h with VI keys on), then print. I also tried adding the link to my bookmark file and activating it from there. I see the same behavior, even if not using g. I'm not sure why the link-numbering would expose this, but see that when I wrote LYPrintImgMaps(), I did not consider the possibility that the USEMAP's would be still accessible when visiting a new page. Re: [Lynx-dev] text browsing
But lynx.isc.org is current and quite acceptable. There is plenty of evidence of active development and code maintenance in both the readable text and breakout subdirectory date stamps. It's common for external links to degrade over time, but putting energy into maintaining clean code should be preferred over website maintenance, especially when the included and very detailed documentation is the best source of usage information. The mailing list archives are the next best place to look when searching for specific issues.
