If you have python 3 installed with macports, the first thing to try is to see
whether it is enabled by default or not:

Because we use a central file server for all our s/w, I install using
./configure --prefix=/share/store/lyx-1.1.2 --exec=/share/store/lyx-1.1.2/linux

I'm not particularly a Linux expert, but from what I see, you did not
(properly) install the XFree86 development package.
I'd say, take your change to download and install the newest XServer
and binaries alongside with the complete development libraries and
headers from a Red-Hat rpm.
