Yeah, but GSoC is always a very big opportunity for a project like this.
And after all, Google gives away money to the community without asking
anything back, so we can't blame them of anything at all. :P I know
there are very tiny projects asking to partecipate, probably it's hard
for them to manage all the requests and give detailed explanation about
the refusal reasons.

There are a number of organizations that might be interesting for LyX
hackers and enthusiasts:

docbook (improve LyX docbook export)
libreoffice (improve import/export converters, maybe to/from word)
sage, sympy (open source computer algebra system integration in LyX)
inkscape, scribus (well, I'll just list those here because our users
often use these as well)

Also maybe a LyX project could still be possible through the google open
source programs office, although I have no idea how they select students.

Cheers,
Julien

Vincent asked for mentors but no one replied. We're not in and the
deadline expired. :(

Any news? The list starts to get populated at
http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/program/accepted_orgs/google/gsoc2012
and will keep growing while accepted organisations fill up their landing
page there.
