I'm need to use the American Psychological Associations' style manual,
and I've found that the apa document class is shown as being Unavailable
in the list of document classes in LyX Version 1.3.4 on Linux.
I've downloaded the apa.cls, apacite.sty, apacitex.bst, and apacite.bst
files from CTAN.
(not using it...) the directory is c:\localtex or similar.
Then you should run something like: StartProgramsMikTeXOptionsUpdate
In both cases, do EditReconfigure in LyX.

I have LyX 1.3.4 running on a Linux box.
I would like to explore APA and Memoir document classes, but the menu
states that they are Unavailable.
How do I make them available?
TIA

I'm new to LyX and LaTeX. I searched Amazon.com for books on both
subjects, and found none listed for LyX. For LaTeX, however, Amazon.com
shows a list of several books available.
Do you have a recommendation for a first book on LaTeX?

Do you know of U. S. universities that have developed and made available
(and strongly suggest or even require) LyX classes for thesis and
dissertation writing/submitting/publishing, particularly in the natural
sciences?
Also, when I installed LyX, the APA (American Psychological Association)

I'm just getting started with LyX and am working through the tutorial.
I'm puzzled by one thing so far.
In section 2.2.1 of the tutorial, I'm instructed to make a section.
Then I hit return and type in five lines of text.
When I hit return, the environment reverts to Standard, but the line is
The last paragraph wasn't clear to even me!
Should have read:

NOT indented, but after hitting return and adding additional lines of
Standard text, the following lines are indented?
