Thanks. As convert is now working, I'll put off installing software I probably don't actually need. I am able to convert the problematic files (such as mobius.eps) to pngs at the command line using convert manually. The problem appears to be that my installation of LyX is not using convert. As

This has to with muscle memory consistency with OS X standards. If I close a document with unsaved changes in TextEdit or Pages, hitting Return saves and hitting Space discards. LyX is inconsistent with this expectation of Mac users. Charlie did write that it was a 'small beef'. ;o) BTW, I
