Heavy hands on keyboard

I touch type (not overly well) and tend to hold my fingers on the keys which sometimes results in a typed character being repeated multiple times as a result of the autorepeat feature of the keyboard. For example I might accidentally mispell the word "form" as "fom". I would like to invoke
