Ok I know it is bad to start a new thread but I
think a number of things need to be listed so that people (me included) aren't
confused.
I am using
\usepackage{palatino}
This provides Type 1 (non-bitmap)
fonts.
The dvi file is perfect-to create the
dvi it makes its fonts from .vf and
