Should be no problem.

One could even imagine automatic upload instead of pasting to the
clipboard ...

Also, the choice of HTML-converter should be reconsidered: 

* elyxer is much improved and problems are fixed by its developer promply
  after reporting,

* the development version of LyX comes with native HTML export.

Bit of hijacking.. Do I understand correctly that the native HTML
export should work (comparably) as well as the LaTeX export? Where

experimenting with Lyx for the purpose. I've found beameruserguide1.pdf
which gives some advice but is there anything else I should look at?

In particular, I want to find how to change the theme. Should I place
this in the preamble or is there a better way?

Hmm, yesterday I showed LyX to a colleague -- installed it and demoed
it on her Ubuntu laptop, in the space of half an hour, quietly while
both of us were listening to a seminar presentation. Smooth as silk.
She was sold solid, started writing straightaway.

Why is it trying to convert to PNG?

Exporting file to PDF(XeTeX)

I'm struggling with following problems: Needed Xetex for ancient  
greek using Alkaios font, when exportig the file to pdf(xetex) it's  
only possible to get either italic or the german Umlaut.

I assume you want to use one of the supplied themes (as opposed to 
rolling your own).  Just put \usetheme{Madrid} (or whatever theme you 
want) in the preamble.

Not that I know of.  If you're going to do a lot of beamer presentations 
with the same theme, you might want to do one of the following: create a 
base document with the theme command in the preamble and save it as a 
template; or write a little module that loads the preamble commands. 
It's probably not worth the effort if it's just the theme, but you might 
have other tweaks (preamble commands, changes to the bases fonts, ...) 
that you want in the boilerplate.  For instance, I usually include a 
preamble command to tell Acrobat Reader to close the table of contents 
(which otherwise is open by default IIRC) and open the document full screen.

What you did seems all correct. I don't know what the problem might be, because
as far as I know PDF should be used for output and PNG used only to display the
image within the LyX window. Perhaps someone else has more experience with this.

I defined a chapter, it put up the headline chapter 1. Is it possible
to insert these strings in Danish, I wonder?
If I don't, I will have to use unnumbered chapters, and LyX seemed
reluctant to add those to the table of contents.

dictionary, I have Aspell in C. But not working I guess.

Ah, you are onto it. It outputs it correctly, just displays the word
chapter in LyX - transforms it when outputting.

Repeated crashes in lyx 1.6.5 and 1.6.6SVN

I have been  experiencing a lot of crashes in the last couple of weeks.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to identify the exact pattern. They mostly
happen during simple operations like erasing a line, or erasing back from a
standard paragraph into a (sub)section environment. Yesterday I  compiled
the SVN branch, just to see if the situation would improve. It didn't. I got
a crash within five minutes. The sequence of operations was something like:
Open old file, Create a new file, cut and past  title from old file into
new, add author, backspace from author into title, Crash. I appended below
what I found in the console. I have no idea if the sequence of
TocModel.cpp(): type not found: statements is relevant to the crash, but I
do see a lot of them being spitted out to console whenever I am in Lyx
(1.6.5, I mean). I should add that I always keep the TOC sidebar open.

Liviu,

I just made a minor change to LyxPoster and successfully ran it as a
converter in LyX. So now I just click file- export- html_clipboard
and it's ready to paste. The LyxPoster source code on my website has
been updated to reflect the change.

It looks like that one! Although the original submitter states it can only
happen with the TOC on the left, while I always have mine on the right side.

But  it should have been fixed in branch 2 days ago, if I read the log
correctly. And I downloaded the source yesterday night (3/11).

I guess I'll have to use the workaround, even though my productivity drops
without a working outliner.

No, it has only been fixed in trunk, not yet in branch. 

With a text editor, you can change the source yourself (but only if it
is trivial to backport the code).

\textcite warning with Biblatex

Hello, I'm using Biblatex 0.9 for my bibliography.
When I run pdfLaTeX I always find this kind of warning on my citations:

Package biblatex Warning: '\textcite' not defined by citation style.

It looks everything works perfectly, although, but I would like to fix this 
anyway

I played around today with various options tried vym (view your mind)
which has some latex export - does not seem to export a complete

little work I imported to LyX.

 I realise this is much less developed, but the interface is quite
appealing -- reminded me of 'brown paper' exercises we have done at
work.
Brown paper exercise - get a big roll of brown paper.  Stick on wall.
use post its to capture ideas.  Stick to brown paper -annotate paper
and re-arrange post its at leisure to structure ideas.

I am a big fan of mind maps, but sometimes brainstorming can just be
putting things down and then organising the thoughts afterwards and
setting appropriate levels.  I like having a mind map to see structure
and balance.

Great, thanks! Perhaps send a patch (for the converter) to lyx-devel,
for potential inclusion in 2.0?

OK I tried this. I defined a new Python file format with extension .py in Lyx, 
and then created a Python - PDF (pdflatex) converter that runs the command:

python $$i $$o

But when I try exporting the document to PDF I get the following error:

No information for converting python format files to png. Define a converter 
in the preferences.

Why is it trying to convert to PNG?

There are different FieldFormats for citations and the bibliography, at
least for some fields (they are defined in biblatex.def). What you would

Exporting file to PDF(XeTeX)

I'm struggling with following problems: Needed Xetex for ancient  
greek using Alkaios font, when exportig the file to pdf(xetex) it's  
only possible to get either italic or the german Umlaut.

Not that I know of.  If you're going to do a lot of beamer presentations 
with the same theme, you might want to do one of the following: create a 
base document with the theme command in the preamble and save it as a 
template; or write a little module that loads the preamble commands. 
It's probably not worth the effort if it's just the theme, but you might 
have other tweaks (preamble commands, changes to the bases fonts, ...) 
that you want in the boilerplate.  For instance, I usually include a 
preamble command to tell Acrobat Reader to close the table of contents 
(which otherwise is open by default IIRC) and open the document full screen.

What you did seems all correct. I don't know what the problem might be, because
as far as I know PDF should be used for output and PNG used only to display the
image within the LyX window. Perhaps someone else has more experience with this.

I defined a chapter, it put up the headline chapter 1. Is it possible
to insert these strings in Danish, I wonder?
If I don't, I will have to use unnumbered chapters, and LyX seemed
reluctant to add those to the table of contents.

and tried at least 10 things but still not working. Looking for en_US 
dictionary, I have Aspell in C. But not working I guess.

Ah, you are onto it. It outputs it correctly, just displays the word
chapter in LyX - transforms it when outputting.

Repeated crashes in lyx 1.6.5 and 1.6.6SVN

I have been  experiencing a lot of crashes in the last couple of weeks.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to identify the exact pattern. They mostly
happen during simple operations like erasing a line, or erasing back from a
standard paragraph into a (sub)section environment. Yesterday I  compiled
the SVN branch, just to see if the situation would improve. It didn't. I got
a crash within five minutes. The sequence of operations was something like:
Open old file, Create a new file, cut and past  title from old file into
new, add author, backspace from author into title, Crash. I appended below
what I found in the console. I have no idea if the sequence of
TocModel.cpp(): type not found: statements is relevant to the crash, but I
do see a lot of them being spitted out to console whenever I am in Lyx
(1.6.5, I mean). I should add that I always keep the TOC sidebar open.

I just made a minor change to LyxPoster and successfully ran it as a
converter in LyX. So now I just click file- export- html_clipboard
and it's ready to paste. The LyxPoster source code on my website has
been updated to reflect the change.

It looks like that one! Although the original submitter states it can only
happen with the TOC on the left, while I always have mine on the right side.

But  it should have been fixed in branch 2 days ago, if I read the log
correctly. And I downloaded the source yesterday night (3/11).

I guess I'll have to use the workaround, even though my productivity drops
without a working outliner.

No, it has only been fixed in trunk, not yet in branch. 

With a text editor, you can change the source yourself (but only if it
is trivial to backport the code).

\textcite warning with Biblatex

Hello, I'm using Biblatex 0.9 for my bibliography.
When I run pdfLaTeX I always find this kind of warning on my citations:

Package biblatex Warning: '\textcite' not defined by citation style.

It looks everything works perfectly, although, but I would like to fix this 
anyway

I played around today with various options tried vym (view your mind)
which has some latex export - does not seem to export a complete
document, rather only the guts of it (between \begin{document} and

little work I imported to LyX.

sofisticated (sp?) output to article, book, beamer, prosper. Bit of

 I realise this is much less developed, but the interface is quite
appealing -- reminded me of 'brown paper' exercises we have done at
work.
Brown paper exercise - get a big roll of brown paper.  Stick on wall.
use post its to capture ideas.  Stick to brown paper -annotate paper
and re-arrange post its at leisure to structure ideas.

I am a big fan of mind maps, but sometimes brainstorming can just be
putting things down and then organising the thoughts afterwards and
setting appropriate levels.  I like having a mind map to see structure
and balance.

One could even imagine automatic upload instead of pasting to the
clipboard ...

Also, the choice of HTML-converter should be reconsidered: 

* elyxer is much improved and problems are fixed by its developer promply
  after reporting,

* the development version of LyX comes with native HTML export.

OK I tried this. I defined a new Python file format with extension .py in Lyx, 
and then created a Python -> PDF (pdflatex) converter that runs the command:

python $$i $$o

But when I try exporting the document to PDF I get the following error:

"No information for converting python format files to png. Define a converter 
in the preferences."

Why is it trying to convert to PNG?

Exporting file to PDF(XeTeX)

I'm struggling with following problems: Needed Xetex for ancient  
greek using Alkaios font, when exportig the file to pdf(xetex) it's  
only possible to get either italic or the german Umlaut.

rolling your own).  Just put \usetheme{Madrid} (or whatever theme you 
want) in the preamble.

Not that I know of.  If you're going to do a lot of beamer presentations 
with the same theme, you might want to do one of the following: create a 
base document with the theme command in the preamble and save it as a 
template; or write a little module that loads the preamble commands. 
It's probably not worth the effort if it's just the theme, but you might 
have other tweaks (preamble commands, changes to the bases fonts, ...) 
that you want in the boilerplate.  For instance, I usually include a 
preamble command to tell Acrobat Reader to close the table of contents 
(which otherwise is open by default IIRC) and open the document full screen.

For me (LyX 1.6.5 WinXp) LyX remembers the last citation format used and selects
this one.

What you did seems all correct. I don't know what the problem might be, because
as far as I know PDF should be used for output and PNG used only to display the
image within the LyX window. Perhaps someone else has more experience with this.

I was wondering, as I was transferring my BA paper to LyX from OOo:
I have set the document to use Danish as the default language, but when
I defined a chapter, it put up the headline "chapter 1". Is it possible
to insert these strings in Danish, I wonder?
If I don't, I will have to use unnumbered chapters, and LyX seemed
reluctant to add those to the table of contents.

I have updated my LyX and know my spellchecker is not working? I searched 
and tried at least 10 things but still not working. Looking for en_US 
dictionary, I have Aspell in C. But not working I guess.

Ah, you are onto it. It outputs it correctly, just displays the word
"chapter" in LyX - transforms it when outputting.

Do you absolutely require this font or would one of the Greek fonts
with LaTeX support suffice.

Do you set the language to Greek? Then you must replace the "babel"
package with "polyglossia".

Repeated crashes in lyx 1.6.5 and 1.6.6SVN

I have been  experiencing a lot of crashes in the last couple of weeks.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to identify the exact pattern. They mostly
happen during simple operations like erasing a line, or erasing back from a
standard paragraph into a (sub)section environment. Yesterday I  compiled
the SVN branch, just to see if the situation would improve. It didn't. I got
a crash within five minutes. The sequence of operations was something like:
Open old file, Create a new file, cut and past  title from old file into
new, add author, backspace from author into title, Crash. I appended below
what I found in the console. I have no idea if the sequence of
"TocModel.cpp(): type not found:" statements is relevant to the crash, but I
do see a lot of them being spitted out to console whenever I am in Lyx
(1.6.5, I mean). I should add that I always keep the TOC sidebar open.

I just made a minor change to LyxPoster and successfully ran it as a
converter in LyX. So now I just click file-> export-> html_clipboard
and it's ready to paste. The LyxPoster source code on my website has
been updated to reflect the change.

It looks like that one! Although the original submitter states it can only
happen with the TOC on the left, while I always have mine on the right side.

But  it should have been fixed in branch 2 days ago, if I read the log
correctly. And I downloaded the source yesterday night (3/11).

I guess I'll have to use the workaround, even though my productivity drops
without a working outliner.

No, it has only been fixed in trunk, not yet in branch. 

With a text editor, you can change the source yourself (but only if it
is trivial to backport the code).

\textcite warning with Biblatex

Hello, I'm using Biblatex 0.9 for my bibliography.
When I run pdfLaTeX I always find this kind of warning on my citations:

Package biblatex Warning: '\textcite' not defined by citation style.

It looks everything works perfectly, although, but I would like to fix this 
anyway

I played around today with various options tried vym (view your mind)
which has some latex export - does not seem to export a complete
document, rather only the guts of it (between \begin{document} and
\end{document}), but allows for some text to come through and not just
an outline.  Didn't try to add any images. I'm sure it ought to be
possible to add to export filters. (I think this is a qt app). After a
little work I imported to LyX.

Tried kdissert (I believe this has now been superceeded by something
which I cannot remember the name of, and which depends on kde4).  More
sofisticated (sp?) output to article, book, beamer, prosper. Bit of
work and it imported ok into LyX (it is set up just to 'make')

I gave Rob Oakes' LyX Outliner a go too
(http://www.oak-tree.us/blog/index.php/science-and-technology/lyx-outline).
 I realise this is much less developed, but the interface is quite
appealing -- reminded me of 'brown paper' exercises we have done at
work.
Brown paper exercise - get a big roll of brown paper.  Stick on wall.
use post its to capture ideas.  Stick to brown paper -annotate paper
and re-arrange post its at leisure to structure ideas.

I am a big fan of mind maps, but sometimes brainstorming can just be
putting things down and then organising the thoughts afterwards and
setting appropriate levels.  I like having a mind map to see structure
and balance.
