formatting cross references in KOMA-Script and a custom float

All,
I've asked a few newbie questions about formatting cross references,
explicitly (thread

where Jürgen Spitzmüller helped me define a custom boxfloat inset. After
many (many) hours, I've finally managed to figure out how to do it all,
so... I thought it might be of some small use to report back. A big part of
the problem was me not thinking to say up front that I was using the thesis
template example posted to this list previously, which employs *KOMA-Script
(book)* document class. Another issue which finally let me solve it all was
realising that specifying a different English dialect was breaking the
intended functionality.

My goal was: 1. to get the custom boxfloat cross reference working as for
floats, tables, etc, with the text 'Box' prepended; and 2. change default
behaviour so that section, subsection, subsubsection are all referred to as
'section'.

*Solution*:


   - by default references in this are simply the numbers, and you have to
   do something to them to get the naming we want. Jürgen quite rightly
   suggested the use of

\newrefformat{box}{Box~\negthinspace\ref{#1}}


   - but note that this only works with *Formatted reference* type, as the
  command is specific to \prettyref



   - now the thesis template preamble included these lines to redefine the
   normal \ref command, using the \autoref functionality in {*hyperref*}. *It
   was not working for me.*

   - the most important point here is that the reference type commands are
  configured to be* language specific*, and I had not realised that my
  documents being set to language=British simply didn't match extras*
  english*



   - so by changing \extrasenglish to \extrasbritish, these reference
   formatting commands now work correctly.
   - the last issue was a crossref for the custom boxfloat inset. (*NB: the
   label for any boxfloat must be inserted with the caption for numbering to
   work properly.*) I haven't been able to figure out how to define the
   \autoref version for a custom counter type, so for now all boxes must use
   *Formatted reference* type, which allows this command to take effect:

   - rather than the format suggested by Jürgen (above), I used \hyperref
  and the {Box } text to be consistent with \autoref — the prepended label
  text is then *part of* the hyperlink. And to my happy surprise, it all

Thanks for the quick reply. It seems I have to read and experiment much more
on this matter. I've just found some suggestions around the acronym package.
While the acronym package does not fulfill the ultimate goal it might
partially serve my actual needs. The best would be the mixture of acronym +
nomenclature packages. Need to play a bit more with these beasts to know
them better.

  Yes, the styling part is relatively easy. One way: DocumentSettings,
 then go to the Modules pane. Load the logicalmkup module. This will give
 you access, in particular, to the Noun character style, under EditText
 Settings. This one may not do what you want, but, if not, then it will be
 relatively easy to produce an alternative if you (a) look at the
 logicalmkup.module file, which will be in LyX's layout/ directory, and (b)
 read some of ch. 5 of the Customization manual.

 To make them all links would take a little more work. I'm no expert on
 nomenclature, so don't know exactly how to do it. But start with the styling
 part.

There is still the question why I get this error if I try to load the .tex 
file:

and this one if I try to load the exported .html file:
An error occurred whilst running java -jar htmltolatex.jar -input 'EG-Qn.html'

Only a look specifically at that file could tell us that. You could try 
running tex2lyx from the command line. You'll get better error messages

More problems sorting bibtex/Lyx output

Hello again!
I asked earlier about how to handle Swedish letters in lyx/bibtex:

solution works fine. Now I have run into a similar problem. I have several
authors with different non English characters in their names. How do I get
them sorted in correct order in the Lyx bibliography? An example is:

1. Author: Schött
2. Author: Schück

In Sweden ö is the last character in the alphabet and Schött should thus
be sorted after Schück. The output file in Lyx does it the other way
around, like above.
Schött is written: {Harald Sch{o}tt} in the .bib file
Schück is written: {Henrik Sch{\{u}}ck} in the .bib file

I have several similar cases. Swedish seems to be a hard language to use
with bibtex.

change pdf save location

Hi,

When I hit the button on the lyx toolbar to either view or update the pdf,
the pdf gets created in a temporary location.  Is there a way to get it to
automatically save the pdf to my current working directory?  I'd hate to
accidentally submit an old version of my document because I forgot to do
save as from my pdf viewer or export from lyx after my last edit; I
certainly don't want to be doing that constantly as I am working.  I haven't
been able to find any settings that will let me change the pdf location.
Have I just missed them, or is there some work-around way to do this?

You can use File/Export/PdfLatex (or another format, if you prefer).
The PDF file will be generated and saved in the same folder es the LyX
file.

This message is given in trying to export the file as html
An error occurred whilst running python -m elyxer --directory
/home/wolfgang/Epig
on the terminal is a long list, which I think has to do with elyxer. So I will 
send the output to Alexander, the author of Elyxer.

And LyX does it this way so that you can view the current version of the 
document without over-writing the PDF you exported yesterday. It's the 
only sensible way to do it, if you think about it.

is there a way to mark tables to be converted into a graphical embed version
instead of e-reader flowable text?

I am trying to convert a XeTex based document into epub format via calibre,
but the tables get whacked. I was thinking that if the tables were put into
the destination PDF from LyX as a graphic and not as placed text, it might
mitigate this.

This is not something I would want to normally do, but trying to convert to
this UTF8 thing I have into epub has become a bit of a hassle.

I tried the eLyXer - xhtml (html4) - import as xhtml in calibre route,
but there are LOTS of tags that fail validation

Nothing I try will make the content of this custom boxfloat *honour
paragraph spacing*. For example, this hack (based on your original
code) doesn't
work, but if I use ERT to create a *framedpar* explicitly, it works fine.
The only difference my novice eyes can see is the fact that boxfloat is of
course a *float*, wrapped in the {float} package which is used to define the
custom boxfloat type with a LyX module.

Hello again!
I asked earlier about how to handle Swedish letters in lyx/bibtex:

solution works fine. Now I have run into a similar problem. I have several
authors with different non English characters in their names. How do I get
them sorted in correct order in the Lyx bibliography? An example is:

1. Author: Schött
2. Author: Schück

In Sweden ö is the last character in the alphabet and Schött should thus
be sorted after Schück. The output file in Lyx does it the other way
around, like above.
Schött is written: {Harald Sch{o}tt} in the .bib file
Schück is written: {Henrik Sch{\{u}}ck} in the .bib file

I have several similar cases. Swedish seems to be a hard language to use
with bibtex.
Sorry to bother with Swedish newbie problems!

Hi,

When I hit the button on the lyx toolbar to either view or update the pdf,
the pdf gets created in a temporary location.  Is there a way to get it to
automatically save the pdf to my current working directory?  I'd hate to
accidentally submit an old version of my document because I forgot to do
save as from my pdf viewer or export from lyx after my last edit; I
certainly don't want to be doing that constantly as I am working.  I haven't
been able to find any settings that will let me change the pdf location.
Have I just missed them, or is there some work-around way to do this?

You can use File/Export/PdfLatex (or another format, if you prefer).
The PDF file will be generated and saved in the same folder es the LyX
file.

This message is given in trying to export the file as html
An error occurred whilst running python -m elyxer --directory
/home/wolfgang/Epig
on the terminal is a long list, which I think has to do with elyxer. So I will 
send the output to Alexander, the author of Elyxer.

And LyX does it this way so that you can view the current version of the 
document without over-writing the PDF you exported yesterday. It's the 
only sensible way to do it, if you think about it.

instead of e-reader flowable text?

I am trying to convert a XeTex based document into epub format via calibre,
but the tables get whacked. I was thinking that if the tables were put into
the destination PDF from LyX as a graphic and not as placed text, it might
mitigate this.

This is not something I would want to normally do, but trying to convert to
this UTF8 thing I have into epub has become a bit of a hassle.

I tried the eLyXer - xhtml (html4) - import as xhtml in calibre route,
but there are LOTS of tags that fail validation

I've asked a few newbie questions about formatting cross references,

where Jürgen Spitzmüller helped me define a custom boxfloat inset. After
many (many) hours, I've finally managed to figure out how to do it all,
so... I thought it might be of some small use to report back. A big part of
the problem was me not thinking to say up front that I was using the thesis
template example posted to this list previously, which employs *KOMA-Script
(book)* document class. Another issue which finally let me solve it all was
realising that specifying a different English dialect was breaking the
intended functionality.

My goal was: 1. to get the custom boxfloat cross reference working as for
floats, tables, etc, with the text 'Box' prepended; and 2. change default
behaviour so that section, subsection, subsubsection are all referred to as
'section'.

*Solution*:


   - by default references in this are simply the numbers, and you have to
   do something to them to get the naming we want. Jürgen quite rightly
   suggested the use of

\newrefformat{box}{Box~\negthinspace\ref{#1}}


   - but note that this only works with *Formatted reference* type, as the
  command is specific to \prettyref



   - now the thesis template preamble included these lines to redefine the
   normal \ref command, using the \autoref functionality in {*hyperref*}. *It
   was not working for me.*

   - the last issue was a crossref for the custom boxfloat inset. (*NB: the
   label for any boxfloat must be inserted with the caption for numbering to
   work properly.*) I haven't been able to figure out how to define the
   \autoref version for a custom counter type, so for now all boxes must use
   *Formatted reference* type, which allows this command to take effect:

   - rather than the format suggested by Jürgen (above), I used \hyperref
  and the {Box } text to be consistent with \autoref — the prepended label

on this matter. I've just found some suggestions around the acronym package.
While the acronym package does not fulfill the ultimate goal it might
partially serve my actual needs. The best would be the mixture of acronym +
nomenclature packages. Need to play a bit more with these beasts to know
them better.

This message is given in trying to export the file as html
An error occurred whilst running python -m elyxer --directory
"/home/wolfgang/Epig
on the terminal is a long list, which I think has to do with elyxer. So I will 
send the output to Alexander, the author of Elyxer.

And LyX does it this way so that you can view the current version of the 
document without over-writing the PDF you exported yesterday. It's the

the pdf gets created in a temporary location.  Is there a way to get it to
automatically save the pdf to my current working directory?  I'd hate to
accidentally submit an old version of my document because I forgot to do

certainly don't want to be doing that constantly as I am working.  I haven't

Only a look specifically at that file could tell us that. You could try
running tex2lyx from the command line. You'll get better error messages
that way.

is there a way to mark tables to be converted into a graphical embed version
instead of "e-reader flowable" text?

I am trying to convert a XeTex based document into epub format via calibre,
but the tables get whacked. I was thinking that if the tables were put into
the destination PDF from LyX as a graphic and not as placed text, it might
mitigate this.

This is not something I would want to normally do, but trying to convert to
this UTF8 thing I have into epub has become a bit of a hassle.

I tried the eLyXer -> xhtml () -> import as xhtml in calibre route,
but there are LOTS of tags that fail validation

Nothing I try will make the content of this custom boxfloat *honour
paragraph spacing*. For example, this hack (based on your original
code) doesn't
work, but if I use ERT to create a *framedpar* explicitly, it works fine.
The only difference my novice eyes can see is the fact that boxfloat is of
course a *float*, wrapped in the {float} package which is used to define the
custom boxfloat type with a LyX module.
