I haven't intentionally set any ligature option. How could I disable it?

I don't know. Maybe they are hard-coded (which IMO would be a bug),
maybe there is an option in the non-TeX font settings dialogue.

I couldn't find any.

If LyX inserts the option, export to LaTeX, fix and compile by hand.
If this helps, report back so that it could be fixed in LyX.

I managed to export to LaTeX (xetex or luatex) and comment out the
 ligature line,

You need the line (which selects the font), but not the option.
Remove only the part in [] including the brackets themselves.

OK, I see.

but then I'm not sure how to compile by hand. I tried
 latex newfile3.tex
 xetex newfile3.tex
 luatex newfile3.tex

They all fail with multiple errors.  Ideas?

`latex` and `pdflatex` will fail (if you exported as (Xe|Lua)tex) because
of Unicode characters and the fontconfig package.

`xetex` and `luatex` correspond to `tex` - the plain TeX macro set.

You need `xelatex` or `lualatex`. If there are still errors, report
 them.

...the joy of TeX-ing. :) After removing the ligature option xelatex
compiled the document fine. But when I export to LaTeX luatex and then
lualatex the document I get a lot of errors. From the messages it is
as if the exported .tex file was prepared for XeTeX and not for
LuaTeX.

Dear Stefano

Thanks a lot for checking and providing this information. The strange
thing is that I use 1.6.5, so one should assume that if it is fine on

Unfortunately, it still does not work even when the path contains
no spaces. Also, it does not work neither with relative or
absolute paths. Most surpsisingly, it does not work even when I
put the .sty file in the temp file used by Lyx...

Do you have any idea how I can use a package that is not in the
texmf tree? I just tried adding this package:

http://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/share/texmf/tex/latex/Sweave.sty

Do you have the same problem on your confugrations (mine is Lyx
1.5.6 on Ubuntu 10.4)?

Hi Mat,

I can offer no specific help, but I can confirm that loading packages
outside of the texmf tree works for me when you specify the absolute
path. I often use lines such as:
\usepackage{/home/stefano/Papers/The-paper-I-am-working-on/Package-file.sty}

I am on Ubuntu 10.10 with Texlive 2010 and Lyx 1.5.8.

Have you thought about putting your packages in the local branch of
the texmf tree, though? In my understanding, ~/texmf is meant to be
used for personal packages, customized versions of standard packages,
etc. I had the habit of working with customized LaTeX code in the
document´s directory, but I then switched to the local branch of the
texmf tree and I think it works better. Less clutter, fewer
possibilities of version conflicts, etcetera.

Cheer,

Stefano

If you're looking for advices on how to build from source, I usually do

1) remove the main distribution (debian) package,
2) install the packages needed for a build,
3) download the latest source code,
4) start building, and
5) optionally, install system-wide

For lilypond and lyx, that would be, from the command line:

1) sudo apt-get remove lilypond lyx

2) a) sudo apt-get build-dep lilypond lyx
   b) sudo apt-get install git subversion

3) a) svn co svn://svn.lyx.org/lyx/lyx-devel/trunk/ /home/username/lyx-devel
   b) git clone git://git.sv.gnu.org/lilypond.git
/home/username/lilypond-devel

4) (in the appropriate directory)
  a) ./autogen.sh
  b) ./configure
  c) make

5) (optional)
  sudo make install

UI problems on XP and Win7 (not Vista)

2011-01-17 Thread Andres
Hello Everyone,

I recently switched to Lyx from SWP, and loving it so far. But I have run
into a problem with the latest stable version 1.6.8 (Nov15) on some
machines. I have Lyx installed on three of my machines: a Windows XP
desktop, a Vista laptop, and a Windows 7 desktop.

On both Windows XP and Windows 7 I am running into odd UI behavior. Single
clicks on toolbar icons do not work (but double clicks do the trick). There
is also strange behavior to expand the menu options in the top bar and
the slider to scroll through the document. Both of these machines are
otherwise stable and perform well. It seems to be a Lyx specific issue.

Also, I am using a Wacom tablets on all three machines, so it may be related
to this. However, the Windows Vista machine does work as expected. Is this
a documented issue? It there any known work-around? Thanks for any feedback.

Random text pasting on Mac

2011-01-17 Thread Dave Bursik
I'm using LyX 1.6.8 on my MacBooks (OS X 10.6.6) and having a strange
text corruption problem.

Words and phrases that I've cut or copied magically reappear in other
parts of my document. Sometimes they're neatly inserted into another
sentence (difficult to spot), other times in the middle of a word (easier
to spot with spellchecking).

For example, a string like In other words might morph into Isome
other text I cut elsewheren other words. I had a hunch that it might
somehow be related to file saving, so I disabled the autosave feature,
and the corruption seems to happen less frequently but it still occurs.

I've also had the cursor randomly jump to another location in the text
causing me to type into the wrong place. I've noticed the cursor jumping
in other applications, but not the pasting problem - that seems specific
to LyX.

I'm using a multi-button mouse instead of the built-in trackpad, and
I do try to be careful about stray mouse clicks that could inadvertently
paste text. (I also use an external keyboard and a pair of external monitors
on both MacBooks.)

I've searched the web and various forums for this problem, but it's
difficult to describe succinctly. If any other Mac users have
experienced this or a similar problem, I'd appreciate hearing
about it (hopefully with a solution).

 Hi Everybody,

I many mathematics texts, proofs are ended with a \square or \blacksquare
 symbol.
Usually, the square appears at the same line as the last line of text or
last equation, aligned to the far right; i.e., even though the line ends in
the left or the middle of the page, the square is always aligned to the
 right.
Obviously, adding spaces until the end of the line is reached is not a
feasible solution. Starting a new right-aligned paragraph containing only
the square is not a solution either, because the square should be in the
 same line as the text.
Does anyone have an idea how to do this?

LyX and TexLive2010

2011-01-17 Thread Sam Lewis
Dear All,

Does anyone successfully use LyX (1.6.7) with TexLive2010?

Since I have change to TL2010, LyX brings up the fatal error that I don't have
e-Tex. I have update TL2010 via tlnet update, as previously suggested. TL2009
works perfectly well. Any idea? Many thanks.

Re: How to use local package outside a texmf path?

2011-01-17 Thread Matthieu Stigler

Dear Stefano

Thanks a lot for checking and providing this information. The strange
thing is that I use 1.6.5, so one should assume that if it is fine on
1.5.8, it is fine on 1.6.5. Or are you actually in 1.6.8 (I think the
default for Ubuntu 10.10)?

Thanks a lot

You have a space in the path to the file. Does it work if
you escape the space?

Or rename the file to eliminate it? Linux sometimes doesn't
play well with filenames containing whitespace.

Chris Menzel

\usepackage{/home/stefano/Papers/The-paper-I-am-working-on/Package-file.sty}

Cheer,

Stefano

Thanks a lot

Matthieu

absolute one, but unfortunately it does unfortunately not
work, I get an error message...

Do you see what I do wrong? I checked the doc but did not

Why not just put the package somewhere LaTeX can find it?

It should work with an absolute path.

If you're looking for advices on how to build from source, I usually do

1) remove the main distribution (debian) package,
2) install the packages needed for a build,
3) download the latest source code,
4) start building, and
5) optionally, install system-wide

For lilypond and lyx, that would be, from the command line:

1) sudo apt-get remove lilypond lyx

2) a) sudo apt-get build-dep lilypond lyx
   b) sudo apt-get install git subversion

3) a) svn co svn://svn.lyx.org/lyx/lyx-devel/trunk/ /home/username/lyx-devel
   b) git clone git://git.sv.gnu.org/lilypond.git
/home/username/lilypond-devel

4) (in the appropriate directory)
  a) ./autogen.sh
  b) ./configure
  c) make

5) (optional)
  sudo make install

UI problems on XP and Win7 (not Vista)

2011-01-17 Thread Andres
Hello Everyone,

I recently switched to Lyx from SWP, and loving it so far. But I have run
into a problem with the latest stable version 1.6.8 (Nov15) on some
machines. I have Lyx installed on three of my machines: a Windows XP
desktop, a Vista laptop, and a Windows 7 desktop.

On both Windows XP and Windows 7 I am running into odd UI behavior. Single
clicks on toolbar icons do not work (but double clicks do the trick). There
is also strange behavior to expand the menu options in the top bar and
the slider to scroll through the document. Both of these machines are
otherwise stable and perform well. It seems to be a Lyx specific issue.

Also, I am using a Wacom tablets on all three machines, so it may be related
to this. However, the Windows Vista machine does work as expected. Is this
a documented issue? It there any known work-around? Thanks for any feedback.

Random text pasting on Mac

2011-01-17 Thread Dave Bursik
I'm using LyX 1.6.8 on my MacBooks (OS X 10.6.6) and having a strange
text corruption problem.

Words and phrases that I've cut or copied magically reappear in other
parts of my document. Sometimes they're neatly inserted into another
sentence (difficult to spot), other times in the middle of a word (easier
to spot with spellchecking).

For example, a string like In other words might morph into Isome
other text I cut elsewheren other words. I had a hunch that it might
somehow be related to file saving, so I disabled the autosave feature,
and the corruption seems to happen less frequently but it still occurs.

I've also had the cursor randomly jump to another location in the text
causing me to type into the wrong place. I've noticed the cursor jumping
in other applications, but not the pasting problem - that seems specific
to LyX.

I'm using a multi-button mouse instead of the built-in trackpad, and
I do try to be careful about stray mouse clicks that could inadvertently
paste text. (I also use an external keyboard and a pair of external monitors
on both MacBooks.)

I've searched the web and various forums for this problem, but it's
difficult to describe succinctly. If any other Mac users have
experienced this or a similar problem, I'd appreciate hearing
about it (hopefully with a solution).

Usually, the square appears at the same line as the last line of text or

missing toggle-outine function

2011-01-17 Thread Jose Quesada
Hi,

I seem to remember I could hide and recover the outline with a shortcut.
I'm looking but I cannot find any toggle-outine function on the docs (lyx

A search produces LFUN_OUTLINE_UP and friends only.
Do you know the function name?
Thanks!

...the joy of TeX-ing. :) After removing the ligature option xelatex
compiled the document fine. But when I export to LaTeX luatex and then
lualatex the document I get a lot of errors. From the messages it is

LyX and TexLive2010

Or rename the file to eliminate it? Linux sometimes doesn't
play well with filenames containing whitespace.

Chris Menzel

\usepackage{/home/stefano/Papers/The-paper-I-am-working-on/Package-file.sty}

Cheer,

Stefano

Thanks a lot

Matthieu

absolute one, but unfortunately it does unfortunately not
work, I get an error message...
Latex Error: File newclass.sty not found

And below the error message, a quite cryptic: cannot \read

Do you see what I do wrong? I checked the doc but did not

Why not just put the package somewhere LaTeX can find it?

It should work with an absolute path.

If you're looking for advices on how to build from source, I usually do

1) remove the main distribution (debian) package,
2) install the packages needed for a build,
3) download the latest source code,
4) start building, and
5) optionally, install system-wide

For lilypond and lyx, that would be, from the command line:

1) sudo apt-get remove lilypond lyx

2) a) sudo apt-get build-dep lilypond lyx
   b) sudo apt-get install git subversion

3) a) svn co svn://svn.lyx.org/lyx/lyx-devel/trunk/ /home/username/lyx-devel
   b) git clone git://git.sv.gnu.org/lilypond.git
/home/username/lilypond-devel

4) (in the appropriate directory)
  a) ./autogen.sh
  b) ./configure
  c) make

5) (optional)
  sudo make install

...and if you want to keep LyX 1.6.x alongside the development version

Andres

Random text pasting on Mac

2011-01-17 Thread Dave Bursik
I'm using LyX 1.6.8 on my MacBooks (OS X 10.6.6) and having a strange
text corruption problem.

Words and phrases that I've cut or copied "magically" reappear in other
parts of my document. Sometimes they're neatly inserted into another
sentence (difficult to spot), other times in the middle of a word (easier
to spot with spellchecking).

For example, a string like "In other words" might morph into "Isome
other text I cut elsewheren other words".
