[LyX 2.1/Win7] lyx --help not responding

Dear All,

working on a Win7 machine, LyX 2.1 does not react to the command line 'lyx
--help' to see the usage documentation. Am I missing something here? 
Ultimately I would like to use lyx in a .bat based on the current command
line switches.

UNDEFINED Figures

Hello,
After migrating to a new MacBookPro (OS 10.9.4) and downloading LyX2.1 my book 
figures started to be UNDEFINED. Also in New documents (KOMA Script Book or 
other book classes) InsertFloatFigure has the same problem; it creates 
UNDEFINED figures as shown below. I reinstalled MacTeX2014 and then LyX2.1 but 
could not solved the problem. Reconfiguring and using different Book Document 
Classes did not help. I tried online info and help before submitting this 
request. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Problem SOLVED. It was due to older files I located using Terminal app. I 
deleted everything related to LyX (rm -R LyX*) on the system and reinstalled 
LyX2.1.1 and float figure started to work. Stephan thanks for your time.

Ok, glad to hear you've solved it.

But I don't understand it. How did you manage to get a mixture of older and 
newer files? The LyX.app should be consistent. Either you have one version of 
it or another. You cannot have both without tricks. Please tell me, what files 
did you delete? Inside the /Application folder?

When I looked at unix files using Terminal app I found LyX2.0 and LyX2.1 in 
/Library/Application Support directory. I do not know why installing LyX2.1 did 
not overwrite or delete LyX2.0 folder. I just entered rm -R LyX* an deleted 
LyX in /Application folder before reinstalling LyX2.1. Thanks again.

Dear all,

Is anybody aware that templates are not installed when installing Lyx on OS
X? Is there something I am missing? I remember that on previous versions
one should run some configuration tool after installation, but this tool is
nowhere to be found in Lyx 2.1.1.

A new sig-alternate template

Hello,

Our research group has been using LyX for writing papers for a while and I have 
created our own layout file for sig-alternate. It is quite mature, contains 
some fine-tunings for camera-ready publication, well documented, but a little 
bit incompatible with the existing sig-alternate layout :(

So any one would give me some suggestions on how to improve this layout (e.g., 
should I make it fully compatible with the existing one, making it only adding 
functions?). It is quite mature now and can really be used to produce papers, 
but needs more improvements to be published outside our research group.

copied to the hard drive at installation time, thus they are nowhere to be
found when one tries to create a new document.

On the Mac installation, they get buried inside of the app package.

Find LyX.app in your applications folder
Right click on it and select show package contents
Then go to Contents - Resources - templates

On my installation of LyX, 
File - New from Template goes to  /Library/ApplicationSupport/LyX/templates 
so that may be a more convenient place for the templates to be placed.

thank you - changing the path in the Preferences - Paths - Document 
templates: box to

/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/templates
solved the problem for me.

In a document I'm writing, I would like to print the date of the last
edit in the title page.  I've discovered [Insert = Date], which looks
like it might be what I want (does it update when I save the document
again?), but the format is 07/16/14, which is a common format for
North America (which is where I am), but I would prefer a different
format, preferably 14 June 2014, or even the ISO standard
2014-07-14, but I can't figure out how to adjust this.  Is this
configurable via LyX, or do I have to do some LaTeX magic?

Hi Will, you can do this with Insert  File  External Material.
It is not intuitive at all (what does a data have to do with inserting
a file?), but it is done that way because it was easy to implement. In
the dialog, you don't have to choose a file. Just change Template to
Date. Note that the implementation of this is just a plain text
file, so if you want to modify it to your preferences, you don't need
to recompile LyX. Take a look at lib/external_templates and the
converter for date. See Help  Customization for more information.

Using LaTeX in ERT is another option and might be more robust in my opinion.

So any one would give me some suggestions on how to improve this layout (e.g., 
should I make it fully compatible with the existing one, making it only adding 
functions?). It is quite mature now and can really be used to produce papers, 
but needs more improvements to be published outside our research group.

copied to the hard drive at installation time, thus they are nowhere to be
found when one tries to create a new document.

Find LyX.app in your applications folder
Right click on it and select show package contents
Then go to Contents - Resources - templates

On my installation of LyX, 
File - New from Template goes to  /Library/ApplicationSupport/LyX/templates 
so that may be a more convenient place for the templates to be placed.

edit in the title page.  I've discovered [Insert = Date], which looks
like it might be what I want (does it update when I save the document
again?), but the format is 07/16/14, which is a common format for
North America (which is where I am), but I would prefer a different
format, preferably 14 June 2014, or even the ISO standard
2014-07-14, but I can't figure out how to adjust this.  Is this
configurable via LyX, or do I have to do some LaTeX magic?

Hi Will, you can do this with Insert  File  External Material.
It is not intuitive at all (what does a data have to do with inserting
a file?), but it is done that way because it was easy to implement. In
the dialog, you don't have to choose a file. Just change Template to
Date. Note that the implementation of this is just a plain text
file, so if you want to modify it to your preferences, you don't need
to recompile LyX. Take a look at lib/external_templates and the
converter for date. See Help  Customization for more information.

Using LaTeX in ERT is another option and might be more robust in my opinion.

working on a Win7 machine, LyX 2.1 does not react to the command line 'lyx
--help' to see the usage documentation. Am I missing something here? 
Ultimately I would like to use lyx in a .bat based on the current command
line switches.

UNDEFINED Figures

Hello,
After migrating to a new MacBookPro (OS 10.9.4) and downloading LyX2.1 my book 
figures started to be UNDEFINED. Also in New documents (KOMA Script Book or 
other book classes) "Insert>Float>Figure" has the same problem; it creates 
UNDEFINED figures as shown below. I reinstalled MacTeX2014 and then LyX2.1 but 
could not solved the problem. Reconfiguring and using different Book Document 
Classes did not help. I tried online info and help before submitting this 
request. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, glad to hear you've solved it.

But I don't understand it. How did you manage to get a mixture of older and 
newer files? The LyX.app should be consistent. Either you have one version of 
it or another. You cannot have both without tricks. Please tell me, what files 
did you delete? Inside the /Application folder?

When I looked at unix files using Terminal app I found LyX2.0 and LyX2.1 in 
/Library/Application Support directory. I do not know why installing LyX2.1 did 
not overwrite or delete LyX2.0 folder. I just entered "rm -R LyX*" an deleted 
LyX in /Application folder before reinstalling LyX2.1. Thanks again.

A new sig-alternate template

Our research group has been using LyX for writing papers for a while and I have 
created our own layout file for sig-alternate. It is quite mature, contains 
some fine-tunings for camera-ready publication, well documented, but a little 
bit incompatible with the existing sig-alternate layout :(

Hi Will, you can do this with Insert > File > External Material.
It is not intuitive at all (what does a data have to do with inserting
a file?), but it is done that way because it was easy to implement. In
the dialog, you don't have to choose a file. Just change "Template" to
"Date". Note that the implementation of this is just a plain text
file, so if you want to modify it to your preferences, you don't need
to recompile LyX. Take a look at lib/external_templates and the
converter for date. See Help > Customization for more information.

Using LaTeX in ERT is another option and might be more robust in my opinion.
