Thank you Scott! Found LyX-2.4.0~beta5+qt5-x86_64-arm64-cocoa.dmg in France. Did the trick. No cursor problems at all. Now *very* happy. A single paragraph of plain text could be the only thing in the document. Thanks to those who have helped previously but still no progress. Scouring forums, I see others with similar problems but no obviously pertinent solutions. Many, many thanks for any further advice. What I have tried: 1. Full reinstall including deleting prior LyX-2.3 folder in Application\ Support 2. Reconfiguring 3. Adding to preferences \force_paint_single_char false That sounds like a very frustrating experience. Have you tried a pre-release of 2.4.0? I forget if you've already tried it. It might make things a bit better, and the final release of 2.4.0 is not too far away. My document is over 1000 pages split into less than 10 files. It certainly contains paragraphs which are much longer than a few sentences. So I presume that it could be an issue with your configuration. In your preferences I noticed: # LyX 2.0.4 generated this file. If you want to make your own # modifications you should do them from inside LyX and save. Format 1 Just a stab in the dark as I do not know anything about the inner workings of LyX, but could it have anything to do with that old version of LyX and the very old Format number? LyX is painfully slow on my Windows computer, but this is a 5 year old Pentium Surface Go, which was severely underpowered even when it was brand new. Event on that machine I did not experience any dependence on the length of the paragraph. Hi Scott, Thanks for the tip. Not seeing the pre-release at https://www.lyx.org/Download Anywhere else I should look? Hebrew, Turkish, Greek Translations Being Dropped?
Translations for Hebrew, Turkish, and Greek have dropped below 50%, meaning that fewer than half the UI strings are translated. For this reason, we are curently planning not to distribute translations for these languages with LyX 2.4. If you speak one of these languages and would like to see the translation continue, then please see this email: http://lists.lyx.org/pipermail/lyx-docs/Week-of-Mon-20231106/000667.html for some relevant information. If you want to know more about this, feel free to ask about it on the lyx-devel mailing list. Contributing translations is one great way to give back to the LyX community! Translations for LyX 2.4
Hi, all, We are moving (finally) towards the release of LyX 2.4. Strings have been frozen and prepared for translation. The most recent versions of the po files (for UI translations) can be found here: https://www.lyx.org/I18n-trunk Just click on the link for your language. Changes to the manuals have been marked using change tracking. If you wish to update those, they can be found here: https://git.lyx.org/?p=lyx.git;hb=master;a=tree;f=lib/doc We'd like to release the first release candidate within about 6 weeks, so it'd be good to have translations of the UI by then. If that's not possible, please let me know. We can certainly add additional translations before the final release (maybe mid- to late-January?). Re: Shortcuts under MacOs Sonoma
Thanks for your reply Isaac. The user directory is: ~/Library/Application Support/LyX-2.3/ That sounded correct. So I investigated a bit more on the Python side. It was definitely a Python issue. I still can hardly believe it, but it seems that the upgrade had completely stripped my system of any Python. I (re)installed it from the official site, and all the LyX shortcuts got working again. And the reconfigure function, too. So, problem solved for now. My difficulty to help you here is that I do not have access to a macOS machine. One thing you could try is to run LyX with a profiler such as Instruments from Xcode. I am not sure what you will obtain with a release version of LyX though, since it does not have much debug information. Re: Debian 12 and Lyx 2.3.7-1
Isaac Oskar, Thanks a million! The script ran perfectly, and now Lyx, this beta version, starts and runs perfectly! What a relief! Back to work and spared from Libre Office! I'll uninstall 2.3.7 and wait for 2.4 to find its way into Bookworm, and meanwhile use this one.
