Alll options are about creating PostScript (which is what LaTeX is supposed to do after all) and then converting it to PDF. Have a look at Acrobat Distiller , or at ghostscript (free!) ... Starting problem
When I start the new compiled Lyx 1.01/2 I get the following message fl_set_object_boxtype. Setting boxtype of NULL object. In fl_bgn_form [forms.c 55] You forgot to call fl_end_form. and the program stops. This with use of Xforms88 and 86 version downloaded from ftp.lyx.org I use Linux 2.0.36 Slackware, but on SuSe I got the same messages. If a solution please give this. Rudie van 't Oever

hi, i just started using (and promoting) lyx, and i am really missing one feature: to have a view at the latex source. exporting and then starting xemacs is a bit tiresome. is there a way to get this in the menu? With which library version did you compile? You cannot run with
0.86 a binary compiled with 0.88. Similarly, with the 0.88 library,
you should make sure that the header (forms.h) version (this is the
version given by configure) is indeed the same as the library
(libforms.a or libforms.so) version.

Does this means that the library version indicated by configure ("checking
xforms header version") is the same as the version you get with 'ldd
lyx'? I ask because your problem really looks like a library version
mismatch. Did you recompile completely after changing version?

A better solution is to add
\frontmatter
marked as TeX at the beginning of the document,
\mainmatter
at the end of the table of contents/introduction, and maybe
\backmatter
just before the bibliography, index and other end-of-book things.

That is possible. Use (as Latex = red) this commands:
\pagenumbering{roman} at the beginning of your dokument;
\pagenumbering{arabic} at the beginning of your chapters
That's all.

I had gotten a libc.so.5 form of libforms.so.0.88 mixed into my system.
A diagnostic approach that would have worked is.
locate libforms.so.0.88
strings path/libforms.so.0.88 |egrep libc
The first step is for those of us who have multiple installs of various
things. REALLY should eliminate repititions; there are tools to find
duplicate file names somewhere.
The second step should yield libc.so.6 !
Otherwise things like system(""), getcwd() fail in lyx. Although I can't
imagine why.

Problem with RCS in LyX 1.0.1
Hi, I am using LyX 1.0.1 under OS/2 (XFree86). Today I installed the revision control system RCS. LyX is supposed to support it, and so I went on to try it. I selected the Registration... option from the menu and registered my file. It was duly put into the /RCS/ directory and the version on my screen was write protected. However, the menu options did not change. Under the respective option on the drop down menu (I am using the German version and thus don't want to confuse you by mis-translating them into English), "Registration..." is still the only option. It is neither greyed out (as it should be after registration has taken place), nor are the any other options visible. I can therefore not commit any changes to version control or create a working copy that I can revise. If I look at the /RCS/ directory, there is a file with the RCS info in it, and if I use a commandline and issue an "rlog" command, the following output appears which looks correct: [E:\]rlog D:\exchange\BibTeX_Notizen.lyx RCS file: D:\exchange\RCS/BibTeX_Notizen.lyx Working file: D:\exchange\BibTeX_Notizen.lyx head: 1.1 branch: locks: strict access list: symbolic names: keyword substitution: kv total revisions: 1; selected revisions: 1 description: Notizen und Konventionen zu BibTeX revision 1.1 date: 1999/05/21 18:53:16; author: abusch; state: Exp; Initial revision Is this a known bug? (see 'man ci' for details) I know nothing about OS2, but if its filesystem supports the comma character in filenames, you may try adding "-x,v/" to your RCSINIT environment variable (and rename your existing RCS/* to RCS/*,v). If you can't do that, you may try apply the patch I enclosed and rebuild LyX. I tested it OK on my machine. It engages only me, and you :) Hope it helps. Here is a copy of what I mailed to John yesterday: :-) This was already discussed in a thread some days ago. You should look at the archives for the full thing. Alll options are about creating PostScript (which is what LaTeX is supposed to do after all) and then converting it to PDF. Have a look at Acrobat Distiller , or at ghostscript (free!) ... Starting problem
When I start the new compiled Lyx 1.01/2 I get the following message fl_set_object_boxtype. Setting boxtype of NULL object. In fl_bgn_form [forms.c 55] You forgot to call fl_end_form. and the program stops. This with use of Xforms88 and 86 version downloaded from ftp.lyx.org I use Linux 2.0.36 Slackware, but on SuSe I got the same messages. If a solution please give this. Rudie van 't Oever

Feature: View LaTeX source?
hi, i just started using (and promoting) lyx, and i am really missing one feature: to have a view at the latex source. exporting and then starting xemacs is a bit tiresome. is there a way to get this in the menu? Does this means that the library version indicated by configure ("checking
xforms header version") is the same as the version you get with 'ldd
lyx'? I ask because your problem really looks like a library version
mismatch. Did you recompile completely after changing version?

Hi, is it possible to change the pagenumbering - I mean, I would like to have my table of contents numbered in roman numbers (I, II, III, IV...) and the other parts in arabic numbers (1, 2, ...). A better solution is to add
\frontmatter
marked as TeX at the beginning of the document,
\mainmatter
at the end of the table of contents/introduction, and maybe
\backmatter
just before the bibliography, index and other end-of-book things.

That is possible. Use (as Latex = red) this commands:
\pagenumbering{roman} at the beginning of your dokument;
\pagenumbering{arabic} at the beginning of your chapters
That's all.

I had gotten a libc.so.5 form of libforms.so.0.88 mixed into my system.
A diagnostic approach that would have worked is.
locate libforms.so.0.88
strings path/libforms.so.0.88 |egrep libc
The first step is for those of us who have multiple installs of various
things. REALLY should eliminate repititions; there are tools to find
duplicate file names somewhere.
The second step should yield libc.so.6 !
Otherwise things like system(""), getcwd() fail in lyx. Although I can't
imagine why.
