You should try out other text classes like paper or the
koma-script package. In the later case, you can use the
'smallheadings' global document class (in Layout-Document) to get
smaller ones (I never tried it myself).

Similarly, the paper class allows you to change the font used for
sections. You will need to write a bit of LaTeX commands, though...

As far as your problem is concerned, you can just do
\let\section=\subsection in Layout-LaTeX Preamble, and all
sections (including bibliography) will be in fact subsections. This
will do the trick, but it is ugly IMHO.

Richard Jean-Marc,

Richard I was somewhat mistaken in my description, however, your
Richard solution showed me what to do. I paraphrased it as:

Richard \let\chapter=\section

Richard in the layout - preamble.

That's right.

Richard In the future I will explore your other comments. I'm using
Richard report but I guess I should be using paper. I'm relatively
Richard new to latex and lyx, so some things are still a bit
Richard confusing. I'm extremely impressed with the functionality of
Richard LyX and LaTeX.

Using an appropriate document class is always a better idea than this
kind of kludges... If you do not like how chapters look, you should
use the article class, where section is the toplevel heading.

HELP:Sub/superscripts not scaled properly

1999-07-29 Thread Q Modnar

Hi, I'm writing a bunch of equations which uses subscripts
which are words not variables. So (in Math mode) I've got
things like
 V
  low
Where V is a normal variable and the subscript "low" is a
word. I enter "low" by first pressing Alt-C-M. However I
find that the word "low" isn't scaled properly and looks
quite large in the generated postscript file. I find that
if I switch to AMS layout then it is scaled properly. Can
you offer any solutions, as I don't really want to switch
to AMS layout.

Thanks.

1999-07-29 Thread N Vande Casteele

Hello,

I'm aware that the following question is more latex- than lyx-oriented but
maybe someone can help me out...

Is there a way to change the amount of space between the footnotes and the
last line of text at the bottom of the page ? I'd like to increase the space
since I use double-spacing in my text and it looks ugly to have the footnote
(including the line above it) so close to the last line of text.

Thanks in advance,
Natal Vande Casteele

Table captions

1999-07-29 Thread Nuno Guerra

Dear Lyx users,

Perhaps you can help me with these 2 questions:

The space left between the table caption and the table is a little small
for my taste. I know how to change this for each caption, but is there a
way to make a certain distance be the default setting?

Is there a way to limit the width of a caption? Sometimes, if the table
width is small and the caption is long, it doesn't look good.

I'm using version 1.0.3. Thank you in advance for your help.
