figure in DIN letter

2002-01-18 Thread Holger Warm

Hello,
does anyone know, how to include a figure or graph on the top of a
letter (german)or letter (g-brief) so that it will appear on the same
site and not on a different one as the text.
Thanks.

LyX-1.1.6fix4 configure problem

2002-01-18 Thread Ulrich Deiters

configure complains that my compiler is not powerful enough to
compile libsigc++. I have tried Hewlett-Packard CC as well as
GNU-cc (version 2.7.1). Which compiler can be recommended for
getting LyX installed?

For lyx 1.1.6, the minimum is gcc 2.8.1 (or egcs 1.0.x). For lyx
1.2.0, it will be gcc 2.95.x (or egcs 1.1.x, I think).

dvi/pdf/ps available for export/view

2002-01-18 Thread Dean Landry

Hello,

I am evaluating Lyx for use in the graduate department in our Faculty of
Computer Science. I installed 1.1.5 at home under Redhat 7.1 (where I
have root). It installed well. At the University, however, I have no
root access. I installed Lyx 1.1.6fix4 under my own account. The
program installation went well (after several tries) but when the program
runs, I have no option to export or view my files as dvi, pdf, or
postscript. We have ghostview and xdvi installed on the server where Lyx
is installed. Is there some configuration file where I can specify the
location of my document viewers so that they will appear in the
menus? Note, I have run /.configure and make, but havn't run make
install. I'm running lyx as /src/lyx. Once I've evaluated the software
and it is deamed usable by graduate students with little technical
knowledge, we will install it as root for all users.

Thanks for any help,

Use math mode (Meta-M or Alt-M) and then ^ (superscript) or _ (subscript).
Press then again Meta-M which enters math-text-mode and allows you type
non-italic sub/superscripts.

Type C-m to enter mathed, than use '_' for subscripts and '^' for

Re: super/subscript

using 1.1.6fix4
C-m works fine for mathmode, but when I type the copyright in (is there an

superscripted but should be much smaller. I am using this in an article

I am using LyX 1.1.6fix4 and Alt/Meta-M+^ gives me unknown sequence:
 Alt-M-asciicircum
Entering Mathmod by clicking the symbol works but doesn't le me type
 \copyright?

In my LyX 1.1.6 its Alt-M M or Ctrl-M for entering math mode (seems like
a misspelling in the first answer)

Press then again Meta-M which enters math-text-mode and allows you type
  non-italic sub/superscripts.

again, Alt-M M or Ctrl-M.

By this method, your super- subscripts will by default be of normal size. To
get smaller ones, you can (still in math-mode, blue box) do Alt-c r (or
Alt-z r on German localization) for Character-layout roman. Math mode
will prevent you from input of special chars, though.

I hope you typed \copyright? Unfortunately not easily: you can move the ERT
from \copyright to \raisebox{some value}{©} (with iso-latin1 encoding) and
input the © with Compose_Key+o c.

, the sign appears
superscripted but should be much smaller. I am using this in an article

Then you need even more ERT. See the attached example.

Mr Voss,
Thank you for the demo file, it would not run through latex due to
a missing file (carom.sty). However I was able to reproduce the effect
well enough. The problem is that I need two(2) enumerate lists side by
side per lyx file that follows. Note that one is numerals the other is
alpha style list. It seems the problem is breaking up the lists. This is a
matching exercise by a high school math teacher that spends to much time
fighting ms-word and very much likes the math features of lyx. Thanks
everyone for all the help so far.

Introduction documentation

2002-01-18 Thread Matej Cepl

Hi,

when reading changed Introduction (yes, it is MUCH better in
*fix4, than it was before), I found very nicely written chapter
about WYSIWYM concept. Maybe, that it may be worthy to mention,
that similar concept as WYSIWYM is called in SGML/HTML world
``structured authoring'' (see for example, HTML4 standard on W3C
website). Actually, it was the reason why I have switched to LyX
from Lout (although, I still believe, that Lout is much better
than whatever was created in *TeX world; maybe, with exception of
ConTeXt; but both of these formatting programs have one crucial
disadvantage for me -- there is no LyX for them :-).

Thanks for all your work, folks!

Hi,

after unsuccesfull attempt to install binary RPM package from

lyx-1.1.6fix4 here (yes, it takes basically whole day to compile
LyX on Pentium 120MHz w/32 MB RAM!). In order that others may
enjoy the result of this work of my computer, I have uploaded the
binary package on http://www.volny.cz/cepls/cizi/ . It requires
xforms-0.89-1. If anybody would to repeat my effort on her
computer, then I have attached also a file rpm-qa.log, which
lists all rpm packages I have installed on my computer (so you
can check that you have sufficient versions of required
packages).

Happy LyXing!

dvi/pdf/ps available for export/view

Use math mode (Meta-M or Alt-M) and then ^ (superscript) or _ (subscript).
Press then again Meta-M which enters math-text-mode and allows you type

using 1.1.6fix4

Mr Voss,
Thank you for the demo file, it would not run through latex due to
a missing file (carom.sty).
Thanks

Hi,

after unsuccesfull attempt to install binary RPM package from
ftp.sylvan.com, I have spent this whole day compiling
lyx-1.1.6fix4 here (yes, it takes basically whole day to compile
LyX on Pentium 120MHz w/32 MB RAM!). In order that others may
enjoy the result of this work of my computer, I have uploaded the
binary package on http://www.volny.cz/cepls/cizi/ . It requires
xforms-0.89-1. If anybody would to repeat my effort on her
computer, then I have attached also a file rpm-qa.log, which
lists all rpm packages I have installed on my computer (so you
can check that you have sufficient versions of required
packages).

Happy LyXing!

Use math mode (Meta-M or Alt-M) and then ^ (superscript) or _ (subscript).
Press then again Meta-M which enters math-text-mode and allows you type
non-italic sub/superscripts.

Type C-m to enter mathed, than use '_' for subscripts and '^' for

using 1.1.6fix4
C-m works fine for mathmode, but when I type the copyright in (is there an
easier way besides typing the word copyright?), the sign appears
superscripted but should be much smaller. I am using this in an article

In my LyX 1.1.6 its "Alt-M M" or "Ctrl-M" for entering math mode (seems like
a misspelling in the first answer)

> > Press then again Meta-M which enters math-text-mode and allows you type

again, Alt-M M or Ctrl-M.

By this method, your super- subscripts will by default be of normal size. To
get smaller ones, you can (still in math-mode, blue box) do Alt-c r (or
Alt-z r on German localization) for "Character-layout roman". Math mode
will prevent you from input of special chars, though.

I hope you typed \copyright? Unfortunately not easily: you can move the ERT
from \copyright to \raisebox{some value}{©} (with iso-latin1 encoding) and
input the © with Compose_Key+o c.

helping lyx find tex files

2002-01-18 Thread darrell

hello, i need some help setting up my lyxrc
file (i think) and have searched documentation
and i just thought this might be easier, will
keep searching -

goal: use menu in lyx to export to dvi

problem: lyx can not find the .tex file generated in /tmp folder

approach:
use command line -e option as well;
output from lyx runs on command line;
add comments ( use // );

// 1. use the export flag!

ddupas@ddd:~/lyx$ lyx resume.lyx -e dvi
About to handle -x 'buffer-export dvi'
Converting from latex to dvi
Running
LaTeX run number 1
sh: resume.tex: command not found
Document exported as DVI to file `~/lyx/resume.dvi'
We are done!

// says can not find the tex file!
// ls shows that dvi is not there (btw -e text works great)

ddupas@ddd:~/lyx$ ls
chars.lyx mess.ps resume.lyx resume.txt

// try from lyx gui, see what happens

ddupas@ddd:~/lyx$ lyx resume.lyx

//at this point i am in X gui and select export dvi

Converting from latex to dvi
Running
sh: resume.tex: command not found

[3]+ Stopped lyx resume.lyx
ddupas@ddd:~/lyx$ cd /tmp
ddupas@ddd:/tmp$ find | grep \\.tex
./lyx_tmpdir612fYUO0X/lyx_tmpbuf612kacIp2/resume.tex
./lyx_tmpdir612fYUO0X/lyx_tmpbuf612kacIp2/resume.tex.dep

// ahha, you little bugger, i know your out there
// ( the tex file in tmp is generated only from the
// gui command, not when i use -e at shell )

ddupas@ddd:/tmp$ cd ~/lyx
ddupas@ddd:~/lyx$ lyx resume.lyx -e dvi
About to handle -x 'buffer-export dvi'
Converting from latex to dvi
Running
LaTeX run number 1
sh: resume.tex: command not found
Document exported as DVI to file `~/lyx/resume.dvi'
We are done!

//( that is wishfull thinking, perhaps the export module should check
//the return code from the tex script )

//NOTE - i am using Debian GNU Linux - and would be happy
//to pass along config information to the package maintainer

// also i have noticed a lot of dated docs on converting to
// diff file formats - am i trying to hit a homerun here,
// should i be using some scripts as i seen on
// http://www.lyx.org/help/LaTeX/docs.php  ??

thank you - darrell
please cc me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] - i am not on your list - yet :)

IIRC, there was a bug with {view,export}->dvi (and all the other formats)
in early 1.1.6-versions

Mr Voss,
Thank you for the demo file, it would not run through latex due to
a missing file (carom.sty).
Thanks
everyone for all the help so far.

uups, that my fault. Delete it from the layout->preamble.
should not be there, it was another example.

ok, than write the \begin{minipage} ... \end{minipage}
in tex (red)
I don't understand your example. have a look at the attached file
than you'll see that the use of minipages are still possible..

Thanks for all your work, folks!

lyx-1.1.6fix4-1.i386.rpm for RedHat 7.0 available

2002-01-18 Thread Matej Cepl

Hi,

after unsuccesfull attempt to install binary RPM package from
ftp.sylvan.com, I have spent this whole day compiling
lyx-1.1.6fix4 here (yes, it takes basically whole day to compile
LyX on Pentium 120MHz w/32 MB RAM!). In order that others may
enjoy the result of this work of my computer, I have uploaded the
binary package on http://www.volny.cz/cepls/cizi/ . It requires
xforms-0.89-1. If anybody would to repeat my effort on her
computer, then I have attached also a file rpm-qa.log, which
lists all rpm packages I have installed on my computer (so you
can check that you have sufficient versions of required
packages).

Happy LyXing!
