Lyx Printing to HP LJ2P

2002-10-25 Thread Reed Loefgren
Hi all,

In the past I had no trouble getting lyx to print to an HP inkjet. I've
recently come into possession of an HP IIP with 4 MB of memory and I'm
having trouble getting it to work with Lyx.

It prints fine in apps such as Abiword, so I think the problem is in dvips
(which is not used by an inkjet.) I've done the config file thing
mentioned in the lyx manual and also placed "o | lpr -P ljet" in
/some/path/here/config.ps, but still, when I send a small job to the
printer it takes paper and spits it out but prints nothing on it. If it
matters, I'm using apsfilter on a Slackware 8.1 box.

If anyone here has experience with Lyx and this printer I'd appreciate
hearing of your solutions to this (assuming you had trouble to begin
with.)

thanks,

rl

cross references to inserted latex

2002-10-25 Thread Olivas, Alexander Raymond
i have scripts that produce latex tables. i would like to insert
these into lyx documents. i've figured out how to do that, but
what i can't seem to figure out is how to cross reference these
tables in the lyx document. the trick in the user manual only seems
to work bewteen multiple lyx documents, but what about when one
is a latex file?
thanks,

Links vs. -nodeps for install LYX on RH7.3?

2002-10-25 Thread Carole Womeldorf
I've just upgraded to RH 7.3. I found three RPMS that seem nearly
appropriate:

 A) lyx-1.2.0-3.i386.rpm
 B) lyx-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm
 C) lyx-1.2.1-1rh8-xforms089.i386.rpm

With each I get dependency errors -

A) [root@Lyx_Install]# rpm -Uvh --test lyx-1.2.0-3.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
xdvi is needed by lyx-1.2.0-3
libAiksaurus.so.0   is needed by lyx-1.2.0-3
libstdc++.so.2.10   is needed by lyx-1.2.0-3
Aiksaurus   is needed by lyx-1.2.0-3
B)  [root@Lyx_Install]# rpm -Uvh lyx-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
libforms.so.0.88 is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1
libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3 is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1
C)  [root@Lyx_Install]# rpm -Uvh lyx-1.2.1-1rh8-xforms089.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
libgcc_s.so.1   is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1

libstdc++.so.5   is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1
libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2)   is needed by lyx-1.2.1-1

(B) with the fewest problems, is most promising AND I do have
installed:
./usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
./usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2
and
./usr/X11R6/lib/libforms.so.0.89

So I guess the reasonable response is go with (B), the
lyx-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm file.
AND use -nodeps.

OR Would it be helpful to create the following links:

ln -s libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3   libstdc++-libc6.2-1.so.3
ln -s libforms.so.0.89  libforms.so.0.88

Re: bibtex style question: help needed, please

2002-10-25 Thread Luiz Eleno
I suppose this is a not well-known fact, that you can define your own
style for bibtex references. In a terminal, run the command

''latex makebst''

The script will ask you a lot of questions about your preferences (e.g.
full author names, order, numbered or literal references, etc). In the
end of the execution, there will be a question like that:

''Batch job written to file 'something.drv'
Shall I now run this batch job?''

select 'y' and a bibtex style file called 'something.bst' will be
generated (of course, 'something' is a user-defined filename).
In lyx, use this bst file WITHOUT the .bst extension, in the same way
you use natbib (Insert>Lists and Toc>Bibtex references...), but with the
full path.

in lyx 1.2.0, this works no longer, and you must move the .bst file to a
recognisable latex directory (usually /usr/share/texmf/bibtex/bst/local
in debian; create yourself the 'local' directory) and run 'texhash'.
Then you need only the name of the bst file in lyx.

picture in fancyfooter?

2002-10-25 Thread Tuukka Toivonen
Inserting a picture (or table) in fancy header works fine:

\fancyhead[L]{}

...and then I can just put some inline picture inside the brackets.
However, the same doesn't work with

\fancyfoot[L]{}

LyX gives me 38 Latex errors, the first is
"Illegal unit of measure (pt inserted). \end{document}"

Any idea?

Re: Multiple bibliographies and koma-script

2002-10-25 Thread Max Bian
Hi.

I am using bibunits and it is working perfectly with koma-script. It
is easy too!

Try the following:

1. Put "\usepackage{bibunits}" in preamble of your master document and
each subdocument you include. Make sure to use "include" option.
Forget all other latex code.

2. At the begining of each included document, write in ERT
"\begin{bibunit}[unsrt]". Replace unsrt with the style you like.

3. At the end of each included document, write in ERT:

"\putbib[/path/to/bib/file without .bib]"
"\addtocontentsline{toc}{section}{\numberline{}\bibname}" -- this makes
the references appear as a section in chapter.
"\end{bibunit}"

Additionly, add this ERT for some good. :) -- It lets the
"Insert/citation reference" work as expected.

"{\renewcommand{\bibliography}[1]{}"
 <<< Insert the BibTexGeneratedReferences via Insert/LIST &TOC menu>>>
"}"

And the final step: Make a script (eg. name it mylatex) to wrap around
"latex" command.

===
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/latex $1
/usr/bin/latex $1
for file in *.aux;
do
 file=`echo $file |sed -e s/\.aux$//`;
 /usr/bin/bibtex $file;
done;
/usr/bin/latex $1
=
You must go to Edit/Preferences/Conversion/Converters/ and change the
Latex->DVI converter to "mylatex $$i".

After these simple steps, it should work!!

OK, so the ReplaceEnvironmentPath thingie should be moved as last in
the function. However, it strikes me that the command is called through
system() and thus the environment variables will be interpreted
correctly there (yes, I did check the fact). Therefore I propose the
following patch.

Read the bibunits documentation. It is not enough to just load the package.

Ok, so I have in the preamble:

\usepackage{bibunits}
\def\@bibunitname{\jobname.\the\@bibunitauxcnt}
\let\stdthebibliography\thebibliography
   \renewcommand{\thebibliography}{%
   \let\chapter\section
   \stdthebibliography}

In the master document I have at the beginning in ERT:

\bibliographyunit[\chapter]
\bibliography*{mybibfile}
\bibliographystyle*{ieeetr}

and then at the end of each chapter I added a \putbib in ERT.

When I compile, questionmarks appear instead of references, the
"Bibliography" headings appear at the correct place and level, but
there is just nothing there.

When I remove the BibTeX insets from the end of my chapters, I cannot
compile at all, I get some errors after the 3rd latex run.
I don't want to have to remove the BibTeX insets anyway, because then I can't
cross-reference without ERT in LyX while I'm writing.

(I think the problem is because the BibTeX insets define a global
\bibliography,
so, according to the bibunits documentation, you have to use \cite* instead of
\cite which would mean even more ERT.)

This bibunits stuff is getting too complicated, I'm tempted to ditch
koma-script
and stick with chapterbib or put all the references at the end...

Itemize in table

2002-10-25 Thread Matthieu Amiguet
Dear lyx users,

I'm trying to have an itemize environement inside a table cell; I tried
several things and I'm getting a little bit confused.

- If I'm in a table cell, I cannot change the environment style
- I tried to select "Use minipage" in the cell dialog, which allowed me to
use environements; however, I got unwanted space at the end of the cell.
Moreover, I'm not able to reproduce this now (the minipage option is
disabled).
- If I deselect minipage in a cell that was a minipage, the environement
stays and the spacing is correct; but I guess this is not a clean way of
doing it...

So I wonder if this is possible and how to do it properly...

Thank you,
