lyx-1.3.0-1 - screen mode - persistent problem with accentuated characters
Hello, I recently post a message about a problem in screen mode with the displaying of accentuated characters (french in fact, like à, é, è, ...) in the table of contents window. The same thing appears when I paste a text which contain that kind of characters. Or if I insert an accentuated character in the source code of a LyX document. On the other hand, if I insert an accentuated character via LyX, there is no problem ... Someone ask to me to change the menu font and the general font in the KDE's control center. So I set all the font to Serif (in place of Sans), but the problem is always there. Please help ... (;) Pierrick Mellerin. PS : my configuration is : RED HAT 8.0, KDE 3.1, LyX 1.3.0-1

Bug in 1.3? Server pipes not destroyed
Hi all, I'm experiencing a problem I hadn't seen with the 1.1.x series, now that I moved to the 1.3 version. I'm using the lyx.org supplied RedHat 8.0 binaries with the QT front end. The problem is that the lyxpipe.in/out files in ~/.lyx/ appear not to be destroyed when lyx exits: [~] \rm .lyx/lyxpipe.* [~] lyx Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy # I've quit lyx cleanly and now restart it again: [~] lyx LyXComm: Pipe /usr/local/home/fperez/.lyx-1.3/lyxpipe.in already exists. If no other LyX program is active, please delete the pipe by hand and try again. Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy This is problematic for me because I use pybliographic extensively, which communicates with lyx via the server pipes. I can work around the problem by making a simple alias/script which manually removes the pipes, but it's a bit of an annoyance. I figured I'd mention it so developers can take a look at this issue. Best regards, Fernando.

In fact, I have changed the "etc/sysconfig/i18n" file and replaced "utf-8" by "iso-8859-1", and all works fine now ! What about the problem between LyX-1.3.0-1qt and UTF-8 ? Pierrick Mellerin.
Annotating eps figures
I have a bunch of eps graphs that I'd like to annotate with LaTeX (axis labels, stuff like that). Can anyone give me some pointers to the best way to go about this? Regards, Angus

Bug in 1.3? Server pipes not destroyed
Hi all, I'm experiencing a problem I hadn't seen with the 1.1.x series, now that I moved to the 1.3 version. I'm using the lyx.org supplied RedHat 8.0 binaries with the QT front end. The problem is that the lyxpipe.in/out files in ~/.lyx/ appear not to be destroyed when lyx exits: [~]> \rm .lyx/lyxpipe.* [~]> lyx Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy # I've quit lyx cleanly and now restart it again: [~]> lyx LyXComm: Pipe /usr/local/home/fperez/.lyx-1.3/lyxpipe.in already exists.

Is this a problem with xforms, lyx or my X11R6?

Check which version of Qt you have. If it is less than 2.2.1, than upgrade. However, do not panick -- I have here very happy LyX-Qt with Qt 2.3.1 and it is just happy. If your graphs are of the mathematical kind, then check out the pstricks package and pst-plot. A description is given in Herbert's tips and tricks http://www.educat.hu-berlin.de/~voss/lyx/psTricks/pst-plotDemo.phtml If you don't want to draw them again or can't then look here for how to overlay text onto a graphic. http://www.educat.hu-berlin.de/~voss/lyx/psTricks/pstricks.phtml Regards Rob
list outage: Feb 21-23
Our network services tell us that the network for the whole campus will be down Feb 23--and perhaps starting the day before. I'll tell you the exact day when we get closer. In any case, I will use this time to retire this old server, and move the list to a new one (keep name, IP, etc). Presently, I plan the move Feb 21, Friday morning at 10 here (15:00 GMT). I'll send a message one hour before the move and another message as soon as the tests after the move are completed. The whole thing should not take longer than couple of hours. Mate
