Hi

I'll be happy to change things at http://wiki.lyx.org that normal users
can't do by themselves, but please send requests to the documentation
list, i.e.

The reason I mention this is that someone expressed a dislike for the
current logo (and gave a link to a new one, nice work!), by posting a
message in the sandbox...
http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/Playground/WikiSandbox

The sandbox is mostly for new users to play around in, so I don't go there
very often and it wasn't until today that I noticed this request.

Anyway, I've changed the logo now (I hope it was a serious request :-). If
the new logo looks bad, let me know and I can change back again.

Repeated Word References

This is weird. Does agums.sty occur in your file textclass.lst

If not, you could try and add it manually. System-wide or local (under

\command completion

2004-05-23 Thread Ronen Abravanel
I think lyx would be even more magnificant than it is if it helped out senile
people like me that don't remember all of their latex commands when they are
stuck.

For example, if I write \twoheadtab, vaguely remembering something like
\twoheadleftrightarrow, then I would like to be told whether it really
exists, or whether I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Probably some very simple variation on autocompletion would bring most of the
benefit, even if it simply autocompleted the maximal prefix common to all
commands that match the typed prefix (which doesn't require new UI elements,
just looking up commands and inserting characters).

Ronen says that a smarter implementation might use the status bar instead, and
he's probably right, but I'd prefer a simpler implementation than none...

Cut and paste from OpenOffice to LyX (1.3.4)

On my RH Fedora 1 system I'm trying to cut'n'paste from OOo 1.1.0 to LyX
1.3.4. This doesn't work: only the first line or maybe few lines is
pasted (this is by selecting the text with the mouse in OOo, then pasting
with the middle button or menu-Copy external selection in LyX).

However, if I copy from OOo to KWrite, this works OK (suggesting
OpenOffice can work) and if I copy from KWrite to LyX this works OK too
(suggesting that LyX can work).

Is this a LyX problem? An OOo problem? Is there a better fix or workaround
than using KWrite as an intermediate program?

BTW, I notice that in the French menus (OK, it's not me trying to do this,
it's someone else who runs LyX in French) it says Copier Selection
Externe and presumably it should be Coller Selection Externe.

TeX with dots after section numbers, maybe i have to write something in LaTeX
preambule?

Sorry gals and guys, I was not paying enough attention to my daily automatic

FYI: Asking for changes of wiki.lyx.org

2004-05-23 Thread Christian Ridderström
Hi

I'll be happy to change things at http://wiki.lyx.org that normal users
can't do by themselves, but please send requests to the documentation
list, i.e.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

The reason I mention this is that someone expressed a dislike for the
current logo (and gave a link to a new one, nice work!), by posting a
message in the sandbox...
http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/Playground/WikiSandbox

The sandbox is mostly for new users to play around in, so I don't go there
very often and it wasn't until today that I noticed this request.

Anyway, I've changed the logo now (I hope it was a serious request :-). If
the new logo looks bad, let me know and I can change back again.

regards

Repeated Word References

2004-05-23 Thread Dave Jarvis
Hello,
I can't think of the technical term for what I'd like to do, so I'll
provide an example. Imagine the following paragraph:

"The card game we played all night was fun. I don't know many card
games ... well, Hearts and Spades. But Bridge? That card game just
blew my mind away. I think I'll stick with The Great Dalmuti."

I want to change the words "card game" to "board game" everywhere, just
by changing one instance. Does LyX support this natively? do I have to
insert some TeX? is it even possible?

Thanks!
Sincerely,
Dave Jarvis

Re: AGU article class

2004-05-23 Thread Tim J. Garrett
The proper AGU files seem to be in textclass.lst
"agums" "article" "article (AGU ms)" "false"
"aguplus" "jgrga" "article (AGU)" "false"
"jgrga" "aguplus" "article (AGU++) JGR" "true"
Since the last shows up in my list of document classes but the first two are listed as unavailable
it seems that somehow "false" needs to be "true"? How?

agufull.bst
agums.sty
aguplus.cls
texhash was run with out options.
Thanks again

This is weird. Does agums.sty occur in your file textclass.lst
(re-generated if you reconfigure) as it does in mine? Like a line
"agums" "aguplus" "article (AGU++) manuscript" "false"
If not, you could try and add it manually. System-wide or local (under
~/.lyx). Weird though if you would need to do that.

You could use a math-macro :D But that's silly. I think what you want to
do is "replace all". I'm sure LyX has that option under Edit>Replace or
something similar.

Dave,

Unless I misunderstand you, the term you seek is "find and replace".

Mosey over to the "Edit" menu and you'll find it there. If you want to be
super cool, just press ctrl-f to open the dialog box. After entering the
terms you want to change (e.g., "card" to "board") click the widget that is
labeled "Replace all".

You might want to look at all the menus, the tutorial and the user guide
to more quickly become familiar with LyX features and capabilities.

Problem with itemize/enumerate in tables

2004-05-23 Thread Thorsten Grothe
Hi Lyx Users,

I got a slight problem with the enumerate/itemize enviroment in
Lyx/Latex tables. I have a table with two columns. The left column is
normal text and in the right column I have some text in a
itemize/enumerate enviroment. Latex runs without any errors through it.

But in the resulting table the right column is one line deeper than the
left one:

|Column 1| |
| |* Column 2 |

Has anyone an idea how to fix this?

Regards

Thorsten

Date Format

2004-05-23 Thread rwint
How come whenever I something in Lyx (DVI, etc), the date always shows up as "Day

\command completion

2004-05-23 Thread Ronen Abravanel
I think lyx would be even more magnificant than it is if it helped out senile
people like me that don't remember all of their latex commands when they are
stuck.

For example, if I write \twohead, vaguely remembering something like
\twoheadleftrightarrow, then I would like to be told whether it really
exists, or whether I'm barking up the wrong tree.

2004-05-23 Thread Reuben Thomas
I thought I'd found something about this on the web before, but I can't
now.

On my RH Fedora 1 system I'm trying to cut'n'paste from OOo 1.1.0 to LyX
1.3.4. This doesn't work: only the first line or maybe few lines is
pasted (this is by selecting the text with the mouse in OOo, then pasting
with the middle button or menu->Copy external selection in LyX).

BTW, I notice that in the French menus (OK, it's not me trying to do this,
it's someone else who runs LyX in French) it says "Copier Selection
Externe" and presumably it should be "Coller Selection Externe".

This looks slightly different from what I have. It should look

"agums" "aguplus" "article (AGU++) manuscript" "false"

(but of course with "true" instead of "false" :-)

Therefore, could I see your agums.layout file (that's where this info
is lifted from on reconfigure)? Mine looks like this:
---
#% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this
#  \DeclareLaTeXClass[aguplus,agums.sty]{article (AGU++) manuscript}
# AGUplus manuscript textclass definition file.
# Author: Martin Vermeer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Input aguplus.inc

ClassOptions
Other "agums"
End
---

> "aguplus" "jgrga" "article (AGU)" "false"

Where did this one come from? Nonsense!

> "jgrga" "aguplus" "article (AGU++) JGR" "true"

This is OK.

layout for nested environments

2004-05-23 Thread Gunnar
Hello.
I would like to use an exercise environment in LyX without using ERT.

The ERT looks like this
\begin{ex}
  What is not Foo?
   \begin{sol}
  Bar is the answer.
   \end{sol}
\end{ex}

So I started to edit the article.layout (code below)
but how can I make the solution to appear inside the exercise?

-- article.layout---
Style Exercise
LatexType Environment
LatexName ex
ParSep 0.8
LabelType Manual
LabelString "Uppgift"
Font
   ShapeUpright
   Family Sans
EndFont
LabelFont
   Series Bold
   Family Sans
   ShapeUpright
EndFont
End

Style Answer
LatexType Environment
LatexName sol
ParSep 0.8
LabelType Manual
LabelString "Svar"
Font
   ShapeUpright
   Family Sans
EndFont
LabelFont
   Series Bold
   Family Sans
   ShapeUpright
EndFont
End

layout for answers

2004-05-23 Thread Gunnar G
Hello.
I'm using the answer.sty package to write exercise and answers and I would
like to have some kind of short cut for this in LyX.

Right now I write:

\begin{ex}
What is the problem with Foo?
\begin{sol}
Bar is the solution!
\end{sol}
\end{ex}

And then select the text and press CTRL+L (dang, I use these shortcuts so
much that I forget which keys I press) to make it ERT.

Now, Can I change this so I write
What is the problem with Foo
select it, press some keys, and it is highlighted with the text: "Exercise"
at the left margin, and write the solution to this exercise in a similar
way? So I don't have to make it all ERT?

I hope you understand what I want to achiev with your help.
Gunnar.
