Yes, there is an argument to hyperref to set. Try

The viewing of the file is actually no problem - you just have to
make sure the necessary packages are loaded (e.g., AMS latex and

Instant preview not instant

I might post it here. I'm using LyX 1.3.7 on Windows. Sometimes when
I'm working with instant preview (not just linguistics, when I am
writing math papers with subscripts and so on), LyX will not
automatically change everything into an instant preview. I'm left with
a weird looking paper where half of the subscripts are in instant
preview and half aren't. The only way to get them out of this mode is
to click on the item and then click outside of it - usually then it
makes it display. Is this supposed to happen, or are the images
supposed to display instantly sort of like how graphics display? Am
I doing something wrong? I can send a screenshot if someone is

When I open up a document sometimes I have trouble with the instant

Figures in tables

2006-02-27 Thread Ernesto Posse

Hi. I have a problem with figure alignment and placement next to text.

Basically I need to place some figure right next to some short text,
where the text is aligned either at the center of the figure or at the
top, as in:

Some text +-+

 +-+

I have tried many things, such as putting the text and figure inside a
table, and setting the alignments for each cell, or putting them in
minipages and setting the alignment too. However nothing seems to work,
and the text is always aligned with the bottom of the figure.
Furthermore, the Alignment parameters do not seem to do what their name
suggests. If, for instance, I put the text in a minipage with Top
alignment and the figure in a minipage with Bottom alignment, I get
the text a little bit below the figure!

How can I achieve such placement?

 Thanks.

We had a flurry of email about this a few weeks ago.

The basic principal is that each TeX character has a baseline. This
baseline is the reference point for the character. In general it is the
bottom of the character except for letters like g where the tail is
called a descender and goes below the baseline.

When you top align minipages, it the baselines of the topmost content
which are aligned.

The answer is to place equal invisible elements (like protected spaces
or nulls) at the top of each minipage.

Paths in pdfpages

2006-02-27 Thread Marc Vinyals

Hi.

I'd like to make a comment on relative paths within ERT boxes. Lyx (I'm
using 1.3.6) seems to have a strange behaviour with some packages. For
instance, I can use the listings package with no trouble:

\lstinputlisting{this/is/a/relative.path} (this and foo.lyx are in
the same dir)

but with pdfpages I need

\includepdf{/home/somebody/this/is/an/absolute.path}

because I'm told that LaTeX can't locate the file if the path is
relative (actually, LyX produces a broken PDF and prints an error in
LaTeX Logfile). Everything is fine when exporting to TeX and running
pdflatex. This is not a big problem, but makes my writings unportable.

Any idea about what's wrong?

I think scrolling up and down (and being a bit patient before returning

Probably not.

You're not doing anything wrong. A brief delay before processing a
formula would not be unreasonable; I not infrequently lurch out of a
math inset before I'm done editing it (hit the space bar one time too
many coming out of a subscript, for instance), and have to dive right
back in. A deliberate (brief) delay would save some wasted processing.
What you and I are experiencing, however, does not seem to be a
planned delay (or at least not solely that), since some insets convert
almost immediately and others sit around for quite a while in their
raw state.

When I open up a document sometimes I have trouble with the instant
preview too, especially with linguistics trees and stuff. I couldn't
seem to reproduce the problem with my math paper and subscripts (given

Instant preview is doing running latex each time it updates, so if you
have a lot of insets (and some of them require more than average
processing by latex), it's not surprising that the initial conversions
might take a while. That said, I run into the same problem of insets
waiting for Godot when I open a document that I do when editing.

It's a bit distracting, but IMHO not a major problem.

http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/info/visualFAQ/ by Scott Pakin
http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/info/visualFAQ/visualFAQ.pdf

This is a 29 page visually oriented document which demonstrates many
early questions about How do I use Latex for such and such purpose.

One can scroll through the document and see features demonstrated
inside sections surrounded with a green boundary. If you click on the
link area you are transported to the UK list of TeX Frequently Asked
Questions which are opened in a web browser started from the pdf.

One can search the visualFAQ.pdf for a word like margin and see
if that matches the task you want to perform in a visual manner. And
if you don't know the keyword, one can browse the visualFAQ doc
till you see what you want to do. It is a fun toy!

I think that a fairly new version of Acrobat Reader is required. One
can have an alternate free pdf writer open (doesn't work quite as well
but still connects to the FaqLink) to use this reference and still keep
Acrobat Reader available to View a .lyx doc in .pdf. I used Foxit.

I was a bit amazed to see how many of the Latex questions re: LyX
which appeared recently, that are covered in this example document.
When in the flow of creation, this method is a first line of defence to the
interruption from writing of having to compose a question for the user
mailing list and then waiting for the (ever helpful) mailing list to
respond.

A bit off the focus of this post, I'd like to commend Enrico Forestieri
for his great howto on building LyX140x on Cygwin especially since
the Mingw/Msys method is not currently viable. Even I could follow it.

Re: Instant preview not instant

2006-02-27 Thread Stacia Hartleben
Okay, it sounds like we're having the same problem. It definately goes
beyond the reasonable amount of time I would give a program to process
previews, and it seems quite random. I had a bunch of subscripts and
there were some which just did not turn into instant previews without
clicking them, while other ones automatically did. I'll try the
scrolling up and down trick - and maybe this is fixed in 1.4?

 makes it display.

I think scrolling up and down (and being a bit patient before returning
to an inset) sometimes gooses LyX to do the IP conversion.

 Is this supposed to happen,

Probably not.

 or are the images
supposed to display instantly sort of like how graphics display? Am
I doing something wrong? I can send a screenshot if someone is
 confused about what I mean.

I couldn't
seem to reproduce the problem with my math paper and subscripts (given
a couple seconds they all turned into the instant preview version).

Cheers,
/Paul

Hi list,

I'm running LyX-1.3.7 on windows version.I use it more often now than linux
version. The first problem i have using windows is when i set line spacing
to 1.5. I got this error

LaTeX Error: File `setspace.sty' not found.
\onehalfspacing

*** (cannot \read from terminal in nonstop modes)

Why this isn't found? Should i download ekstra package using miktex
options? If so, then why the file isn't budled with lyxWinInstaller?

Thanks,

Adinda P

From the documentation of setspace.sty

% one and a half spacing is 1.5 x pt size
\newenvironment{onehalfspace}{%

}{%

}

ftp://cam.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/setspace/setspace.sty
C:\texmf\tex\latex\setspace\setspace.sty
Use Miktex Options to refresh the filename database (fndb)

I have this file because I did a total install of Miktex prior to installing
LyX. This comes to 307 megabytes. I think it's likely that LyXWinstaller
doesn't default to a total install of Miktex because the total package has
a lot of very infrequently used files. I know that the LyXWinInstaller
adds to a Miktex install if important files, which is probably based on
frequency of use by most people, is not installed. If no Miktex install is
discovered then it either does the {small?} or large install plus key files.

For the users as a collection there will always be some situation in which
a rarely used file is required for somebody, sometime. To solve this problem
for everyone, then a full install is needed which uses extra time. So the
decision to omit a particular package might be a mistake on the part of the
package bundler. Or a mistake on the estimation of the user on the
importance of the package.

But aside from that, the decision to require every user to install the full
(307mb) number of packages is not going to be the default of any installer.
Perhaps a feature to the installer could be added to install the total
Miktex
package. But no installer is going to psychically anticipate the needs of
every
user, in order to do many packages plus certain other personally desired
ones.

Changing an installer takes time which subtracts from implementing other
features or projects. So there is a tradeoff in deciding whether to respond
to requests (or bug fixes) and using an easy workaround, get some file if
it becomes needed. Miktex comes with setup.exe which can upgrade your
entire install with all the packages so this problem won't arise again. If
you

have doubts about doing this, that is the same reason why WinLyXInstaller
is not going to require a full package download by default which would
satisfy the future file needs of every user at the expense of using up time
from most users which does not satisfy their preferences.

That is the reason in general. Uwe may have a more specific reason to offer.

Stephen

Figures in tables

Hi. I have a problem with figure alignment and placement next to text.

Basically I need to place some figure right next to some short text,
where the text is aligned either at the center of the figure or at the
top, as in:

\includepdf{/home/somebody/this/is/an/absolute.path}

because I'm told that LaTeX can't locate the file if the path is
relative (actually, LyX produces a broken PDF and prints an error in
LaTeX Logfile). Everything is fine when exporting to TeX and running
pdflatex. This is not a big problem, but makes my writings unportable.

Any idea about what's wrong?

math inset before I'm done editing it (hit the space bar one time too
many coming out of a subscript, for instance), and have to dive right

I couldn't
seem to reproduce the problem with my math paper and subscripts (given
a couple seconds they all turned into the instant preview version).

The viewing of the file is actually no problem - you just have to

Instant preview not instant

2006-02-27 Thread Stacia Hartleben
I was going to post this again in the IPA question list, but I thought
I might post it here. I'm using LyX 1.3.7 on Windows. Sometimes when
I'm working with instant preview (not just linguistics, when I am
writing math papers with subscripts and so on), LyX will not
automatically change everything into an instant preview. I'm left with
a weird looking paper where half of the subscripts are in instant
preview and half aren't. The only way to get them out of this mode is
to click on the item and then click outside of it - usually then it
makes it display. Is this supposed to happen, or are the images
supposed to display "instantly" sort of like how graphics display? Am
I doing something wrong? I can send a screenshot if someone is
confused about what I mean.

When I open up a document sometimes I have trouble with the instant
preview too, especially with linguistics trees and stuff. I couldn't
seem to reproduce the problem with my math paper and subscripts (given
a couple seconds they all turned into the instant preview version).

Figures in tables

2006-02-27 Thread Ernesto Posse

Hi. I have a problem with figure alignment and placement next to text.

Basically I need to place some figure right next to some short text,
where the text is aligned either at the center of the figure or at the
top, as in:

Some text +->+

 +->+

I have tried many things, such as putting the text and figure inside a
table, and setting the alignments for each cell, or putting them in
minipages and setting the alignment too. However nothing seems to work,
and the text is always aligned with the bottom of the figure.
Furthermore, the Alignment parameters do not seem to do what their name
suggests. If, for instance, I put the text in a minipage with "Top"
alignment and the figure in a minipage with "Bottom" alignment, I get
the text a little bit below the figure!

\lstinputlisting{this/is/a/relative.path} ("this" and "foo.lyx" are in
the same dir)

but with pdfpages I need

\includepdf{/home/somebody/this/is/an/absolute.path}

because I'm told that LaTeX can't locate the file if the path is
relative (actually, LyX produces a broken PDF and prints an error in
LaTeX Logfile). Everything is fine when exporting to TeX and running
pdflatex. This is not a big problem, but makes my writings unportable.

Any idea about what's wrong?

This happens to me, somewhat routinely (same version, same OS -- also
happened with 1.3.6).

I'm left with
a weird looking paper where half of the subscripts are in instant
preview and half aren't. The only way to get them out of this mode is
to click on the item and then click outside of it - usually then it
makes it display.

I think scrolling up and down (and being a bit patient before returning
to an inset) sometimes "gooses" LyX to do the IP conversion.

Is this supposed to happen,

Probably not.

What you and I are experiencing, however, does not seem to be a
planned delay (or at least not solely that), since some insets convert
almost immediately and others sit around for quite a while in their
"raw" state.

When I open up a document sometimes I have trouble with the instant
preview too, especially with linguistics trees and stuff. I couldn't
seem to reproduce the problem with my math paper and subscripts (given
a couple seconds they all turned into the instant preview version).

/Paul

Set line spacing

Hi list,

I'm running LyX-1.3.7 on windows version.I use it more often now than linux
version. The first problem i have using windows is when i set line spacing
to 1.5. I got this error

LaTeX Error: File `setspace.sty' not found.
\onehalfspacing

Why this isn't found? Should i download ekstra package using "miktex
options"? If so, then why the file isn't budled with lyxWinInstaller?

Thanks,

New Latex Reference Resouce

Welcome to the UK List of [locally searchable plus Google]

http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/info/visualFAQ/ by Scott Pakin
http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/info/visualFAQ/visualFAQ.pdf

This is a 29 page visually oriented document which demonstrates many
early questions about How do I use Latex for such and such purpose.

One can scroll through the document and see features demonstrated
inside sections surrounded with a green boundary. If you click on the
link area you are transported to the UK list of TeX Frequently Asked
Questions which are opened in a web browser started from the pdf.

One can search the visualFAQ.pdf for a word like "margin" and see
if that matches the task you want to perform in a visual manner. And
if you don't know the keyword, one can browse the visualFAQ doc
till you see what you want to do.

Subject: Set line spacing

Hi list,

version. The first problem i have using windows is when i set line spacing
to 1.5. I got this error

LaTeX Error: File `setspace.sty' not found.

Why this isn't found? Should i download ekstra package using "miktex

Thanks,

Adinda P

From the documentation of setspace.sty

% one and a half spacing is 1.5 x pt size
\newenvironment{onehalfspace}{%
\begingroup
 \onehalfspacing
}{%
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
}

ftp://cam.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/setspace/setspace.sty

Stephen
